Then I'd say you're on borrowed time, unless the oil pump was replaced with the newer part at the same time.

They don't all break but when you consider the cost of a new oil pump is about £200 (plus fitting) and a new engine is the thick end of £10k it's a part well worth replacing.

You might want to remove your VIN from your earlier post. Thumbs Up

I have changed the old style pump up to chassis 8A468***

Don't rely on the chassis break Thumbs Up

In fact, I think I have it narrowed down to the type of coolant pipe clips/clamps fitted Embarassed

@DiscoMikey: Can you describe the type of coolant pipe clips/clamps fitted indicating new/old pump?

Hi all when replacing an engine what other jobs would you recommend being done whilst body is off. 130,000 miles

Rear brake pipes if they seem corroded
Front and rear upper suspension arms
Check in-tank fuel pump to clear any debris on pickup
Check, clean and paint any corrosion on chassis
I removed air tank for cleaning and painting as it can corrode and leak
Anti roll bar D bushes
Fit metal sump to autobox, drain torque converter for a full oil change

Spring to mind but there may be some other items worth checking, i;m sure others will add tot he list.

Thanks would it be worth me asking them to do the 150,000 miles service or gear oil and filter while the body is off does it make this easier?

I've only read up to page 19 so far but I'm glad I found this thread and will keep reading to the end. My car an 07 started squealing a few days ago, followed by an unpleasant rubbing and grinding noise. My partner was out in it yesterday and the noise was so scary she pulled over and called the AA. After taking a look and driving it the guy diagnosed a wheel bearing collapse and towed it home. My local mobile mechanic came out and took a look, he looked for signs of wheel bearing failure but wasn't convinced. Then he called me over to look deep into the engine bay to see what's pictured. My engine still runs and the car still drives, obviously I'm now doing nothing until the work has been done but his assumption that either the bearings, mounting bolt or something less catastrophic than the topic of this thread has happened will only be shown when we get in there. I hope that he's right but after reading about this I'm not so optimistic. Will know over next couple of days. Will photograph the area as I removed obstructing parts to get a better look.

Looking at your picture, it appears that only your auxiliary belt tensioner that has gone, not a big job.
