Really? Confused Where did you find that out?

And is ~ 15 failures from over 20,000 members here an unacceptable rate?

The way I see it is that's 15 vehicles from on here !
How many others have failed that are not on here ?
Mines in the VIN range and has not done the mileage to warrant a 105K belt change, the ones that have been changed have they had the bolts changed for the superceded part and had they had the oil pan changed would they still have gone pop ?

I looked at the 9a oil pan with the view that it had been made with the intention that it was to replace the hollowed out earlier one ?

Discostu, do you know differently ? What is your interpretation of the different oil pump pan and the 3 times superceded tensioner bolt ?

I don't 'know', but parts like that can be changed for many reasons - request from customer (eg Peugeot might request a modification and Ford would only want one type of cover, so would supply to all users), change of supplier of the part, spec of the engine (eu4 vs eu5), cost (the most common reason!), or because of an issue. To say it was definitely changed for this specific issue is a guess - possible, but not definite.

15/20000 is a fairly small percentage, and is likely to be a larger representation than the true figure, as forum's attract people with issues...

Do all those 20K people post, and do all those 20K people own 07/08 models falling within the suspected VIN range? Or is it more likely that 10% of them post, and 20% of them own 07 models.

so, 20K x 10% = 2000, 2000x20% (car sold over 5ish years) = 400.

Is 15 in 400 a fair amount to have EXACTLY the same catastrophic failure?

I'd say so, yes.

Stu, agreed could be for any of the reasons you state, and as an end user "me" I will try to make a square peg fit a round hole if it will add a bit of gravitas to the subject, so if mine fails I will try and understand all the variables but ultimately the reasons why it was superseded was because the part had multiple failures ?

J@mes, I thought about the percentage being in the VIN range ? I didn't apply much thinking to it but assume it will be a lot less than 20K !

Can we have a poll ?

I'd say that one failure of that type was unacceptable, never mind 15.
The design of the part just looks so obviously 'wrong' after seeing the failures

Still presuming this is the cause, and not a result, of course Wink

In the meantime, does anyone want an engine? Whistle

It's borderline as you state it TBH, higher than you'd like from a luxury mark but probably acceptable to the beancounters.

The real issue is that the motors with the weak plate are still out there, so the phrase really should be "15 failures so far and counting"

I wonder how many of the 20,000 members here have 2007's? My money is on less than 100... Bet it's not many as I can only find a total of 25,543 D3's that were registered in the UK that year in total!

It's a shame we can't list members here by vehicle type - it would prove useful for cases like this.
