Found this crack on my oil pump at 33,000 miles... replaced it and sold the car after a shameful response from LR. My only recourse was to avoid Landrovers in the future... ended up with a Landcruiser.

Hi Farmerboy,
Great to hear that you found the crack before it trashed the engine.
Can I ask if that crack was at 33k from new and how old the car was when you found it?
Thanks,
Gary

Yes, Flack discovered it at 33,000 miles from new... it was 6 years old... (maybe 7?). I bought a base model (coils) because I knew about all the suspension problems but still had endless issues with the epb, wheel nuts, towing hitch etc.... I had no confidence in it and the crack in the oil pump was the final straw. LR customer services did not want to know... such a shame.
Now have a Landcruiser... just put fuel in it and drive..... no problems yet.
Have to say the Disco is a MUCH nicer car to drive but I will not be buying another until the reliability index improves!!!! (hopefully soon!)2007 Base D3 - Buckingham Blue

Thanks Farmerboy,
It's good that Flack found the problem before it caused even more pain for you. A Landcruiser is sounding more appealing by the minute , if I can ever afford another car, that is. The disco seems to have me trapped at the moment, that's for sure!!!

Yes, I too was wary of getting "trapped" with huge bills hence my decision to jump ship. We keep horses and I compare the Diso to one of our thoroughbreds... great looking, refined, classy but always needs the vet and is very much "high maintenance". Compared to our Connemaras which are "unbreakable" but a bit boring!
Best of luck....2007 Base D3 - Buckingham Blue

Hi All
Just wanted to update re my tensioner problem. When I saw the images from the main dealer it was obvious to me it was the oil pump housing after all, a point I was able to make in my correspondence with LR.
The good new is, after an initially disappointing response, I have now come to an agreement with LR, in line with others on this site, and the work will begin on Monday.
Thank you all for your help, especially those who PM'd me, and good luck to any who are still going through the process.

Understand your wanting to keep things quiet until "The fat lady sings"
or perhaps that should be until "Your Disco purrs again"

The "7A" bit is enough to tell me that you probably have one of the weaker oil pumps fitted to your D3.
