Perhaps ask them why, if 129k is the expected life of the oil pump casing, do they not specify that it is renewed in their service schedule...Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

Hi,
Sorry to hijack this post, but is this tensioner mount a problem with all Disco 3's or just certain MYs.
I'm looking at buying a 58 plate (Oct 08) which will need the belts doing.
I would suggest if the belts are being done you should also change the oil pump, irrespective of year.
Certainly that is what I, and many others have dome. Some people also replace the water pum at the same time - I decided against this.

Hi if I were to get a metallurgy report on my failed oil pump casing what chances would I have of seeking recompense for my engine through Landrover.
Kind regards George

I have recently been through the whole arduous process of Oil Pump Housing failure and have my car back with a new engine. It took 2 Months in total but they did contribute significantly more than 50% in the end. I was advised hat the legal route may result in my case being 'locked up' in legal departments for Months which made sense and I had not got Months to wait so opted to tackle LRCS.
Keep going for more contribution, mine had done 132000 miles owned by me from new with a Full Service History using genuine parts but at an independent garage including the belt change.

Hi
I posted on here previously as I believed my oil pump casing had broken as so many others have experienced. It transpires that it was the tensioner itself that broke, a LR part that was fitted during the cam belt change at a main dealer and which is covered by LR two year, unlimited mileage, warranty.
Yeay I thought but no, LR are saying they will not pay for the repair to the damage to my engine because the warranty doesn't cover consequential damage. I really can't believe this, it seems mad that I might've been better off if a non-warrantied part had failed.
I have appealed the decision but am not expecting an improved offer at present.
Has anyone any ideas on things I might say or do that could help in this situation, please?
Thanks
Gary

That is well taking the weewee, might be the time to start getting legal advice.
Push them hard, and if they don't yield then I'd start with Trading Standards. They haven't got a leg to stand on and are trying it on, simple as that. Thanks DSL & Lost for Words,
I was wondering about the small claims court, I know the amount will exceed £10k but I've looked and they will consider higher costs in some cases.
Trading Stamdards sounds like a great idea too.
I will wait on the result of my appeal then see where I go from there.

Hi DSL
My car has a full service history with only the 92k & 122k service done at a non-main dealer. LR have had all the evidence of servicing and seem to have no complaints there. They've also had all the proof of main dealer purchase and invoice details of the 104k service when the cam belts were done, along with the tensioners etc. It was only after two Weiss of proving all that that they fell back on excluding consequencial damage. I can't see how any warranty is worth anything on a cam belt change in that case because it seems to me that any part changed in that service that fails subsequently will result in the loss of the engine and then it's not covered.
Thanks
Gary

If it was me I'd pass all the info to Pete@LR, out "representative" on here (not sure who holds that title now) and CC it to your friendly solicitor. Not covering consequential damage with a part like that is b*llocks, how to really put peeps off the brand.
