I will also clearly take this up with LRCS but given the high mileage and that I am not the first owner I am not banking on their support. It does have a full LR service history and I am only the second owner though.......

@JacksoB

There are folks on this site - with cars of a similar mileage - who have benefitted from a partial contribution from Land Rover. Don't give-up just yet. Collate the evidence from this site and contact LRCS. You are not the first and you will not be the last to fall foul of this manufacturing defect, unfortunately.

Why LR don't strongly advise replacing the oil pump at the same time as doing the belts - on affected vehicles - is beyond me. Whistle They should even just do it as part of the job on these cars.

It would certainly be cheaper than having to contribute 50% towards a new engine 40k miles down the line.

LR aren't going to advise an oil pump change on affected cars coz that'll admit there is a defect, hence open up liability. They will be desperate to avoid that, preferring their customers to take the hit unless they are lucky to squeeze goodwill help out of them.

Given that it is a bought in engine from psa group/ford, I doubt Landrover would admit a fault is present unless it came from engine manufacturer first.

Exactly, Ford isn't going to do anything for JLR that it isn't forced to. Plus with the number of engines affected the numbers would look pretty horrible, even just changing oil pumps. Cheaper just to throw a few grand at those fortunate to get a positive response from LRCS.

Is this a problem of similar MY engines in Jags & Pugs?

Too right Del, I don't suppose Ford will fall over themselves to help.

Lets just hope JLR don't make any cock ups when they start producing their own engines in Wolverhampton!

Thanks all, once I've worked out how to get the car 20 miles down the road to the nearest LR dealer I'll let you know how I get on! Ben.

Haven't you got any breakdown rescue cover? Or even the stealer especially if they're going to be getting the work to fix it?

Or just phone around recovery companies locally & ask how much from here to there. Compared with the costs involved in a blown engine it'll be peanuts. Thumbs Up

The dealer finally got round to looking at my car, and have said the belt is still in place and has tension, but that the engine has completely seized and they have no idea why. Apparently I have two choices, either authorise 20 hours of investigation to completely strip the engine down, or put a new engine in. Have been on the phone to LRCS, but any other ideas very welcome! Ben

Have you had a recent service with oil filter change ?

There are a number of instances where the main bearing shells have slipped causing blocked oil ways and then engine seizure. Not always related but there seems to be a number of these related to recent oil filter changes. Whistle

It was serviced with oil + filter changed last June, so relatively recently.
