Oil Pump Casing Changed Today |
|
Well I did my car today and changed the Oil pump casing to the new spec one from TLO, its got a lot more material around the mounting face now and it has been beefed up a lot..
It's a job not for the faint hearted as its a full days job to change the casing and do the front cam belt, and that bottom crankshaft bolt is fooking tight.
I started at 8:30am and finished at 18:30pm..I am in the process of doing a how to and took some pictures..

Good grief my wife was 2 miles from home when the engine lost power and stopped. It's now in the dealers with a transmission fault code. Interestingly she could turn the engine over with the starter but it wouldn't fire up. After leaving overnight in drive unable to turn engine over just a faint click from relay in fuse box in passenger footwell.New battery in Feb fully charged.
Is it possible for this failure to occur withhout a final death rattle from the engine?

I wonder if the same changes took place on the Jaguar & Peugeot, is it the same part on those engines. I would be surprised if they are different.
As it is shared, it would be interesting to know who requested the engines.

ISTR reading somewhere that LR modified the oil system to cope with extreme angles during operation. So maybe LR use a bespoke oil pump casing?

I did look that up, but all I could find was baffles in the sump or something. It would be good to know, as it might lead to a reason for the change.
My belts are being done Monday, so hopefully it will be OK

I had my old oil pump casing cracked detected today and they could not not see any crack's or fractures beginning in and around the area of the cam belt tensioner mount, but the guy did comment that the material thickness around that area is thin to say the least.

Thanks for posting this Flack. What's the cost of the oil pumping casing and additional time to change. I think I will have mine done when the belts are changed.
