any chance the tensioner mount had been over tightened and split the casting?

No not caused by over tightening, the casting has cracked well away from the hole for the tensioner bolt. As soon as as can I will post a pic and all will be clear Thumbs Up

No, didn't think I would get anywhere due to out of warranty.

Might be worth it, it's totally unacceptable that these engines are failing after such a short time. At what point do LR start getting concerned for future sales.

That's such a bummer!...Having read the threads it does seem as if it was something during the recent belt change that started the problem!

Agree that LR should be given the chance to investigate why such a massive failure should happen...

I have worked for BMW & Mercedes for 15yrs in the past and although both have standard warranty times, they still have what's called as good will warranty, this can be at anytime during a vehicles life....depending on the problem!

Pete.

Has this happened to anyone else?

The exact same thing has recently happened to my LR3 - also a 57 date of manufacture. Also out of warranty. I have taken the vehicle to a main dealer for examination and notified LRCS - who were not prepared to assist with the (prohibitive) cost of repairs. Surely it's unacceptable for a component of this nature to fail after such a short time - is anyone else aware of similar failures and / or can suggest reasonable ways of getting it resolved..? Thanks, D11.

I used to work in a Land Rover main dealer during the 90's and there good will warranties where second to none. BMW owned then but everything changed when Ford took over, rubbish customer care and even worse parts supply !

guys and girls, remember when yer talk to LRCS you are NOT speaking to land rover but a third party contractor.

If you want to escalate the issue, need to put pen to paper with photos and send it recorded delivery to the top boss at LR, ie the guy who runs around in the FFRR with number plate "1 LR" Thumbs Up
