No, should be fine. Which unit do you have? Some GPS chipsets are more sensitive (i.e. better) than others.

Mossy, if you can, try another R/A unit. Me & some colleagues had a few problems with early R/A units (sometimes taking ages to find a signal). They were replaced very efficiently, no probs. since.

Hi LT. The Road Angel plus I have is a replacement as I suspected the first unit was faulty - used to take an eternity to get a signal if ever. This replacement unit is better, but I still need an external antenna to get a lock else it can take up to half an hour. As the instructions mentioned some problems with heated windscreens and I’d replaced, I just assumed that was the problem. S’pose I could have saved ~£16 I think it cost.
Now I’ve shelled out on the antenna and it works, I don’t really worry about it, but I would like to compare now you’ve got me curious. It's still under guarantee, and it's a pain having to plug the antenna into that fragile little connector on the back, I'll revisit.
Could just be a dirty windscreen? D3 HSE V8...

We sent back several units with the same problem. I think they may sometimes get a batch of dodgy GPS receivers.
I wasn't actually expecting the R/A to work in the D3, but it does. I think the Renault screens block the signal, but the "Ford" screens are fine. I used the R/A in a Mondeo hire car earlier this year & that was fine as well.

My Tom Tom works fine and if you dont need the bluetooth phone connection, fits really well in the gap where the LR gadget would have sat!
