yet another 17" rims question |
|
I definitely would prefer steel rims for offroading and winter tyres, but it seems to be impossible to find steel rims for the D3 here in EU
I've fount that VW multivan T5 (transporter, caravelle, etc.) are quite similar to our rims
these rims are 7x17 H2 ET56 5/120
now what i can understand is the width, the diameter, the PCD, the presence of the two humps, and the positive offset that's 56mm. More than that each VW rim has the weight certification to 950kg
what's the standard offset of genuine 7x17 alloy rims?
do you think I could fit those rims onto my MY2007 D3?
thanks

they sell two rim types
one is rated at 850kg, but the second is rated at 950kg, so higher than D3's alloys
i've found only this doc over the net
http://www.slimmit.com/go.asp?8HK
VW official dealer in my town said they exist
code 7J5601027
did you have any experience with VW rims?

the ones I saw looked very much like 20" stormers, and were being sold as fitting both VW transporter and RR, but thet were only weight rated at 600kg.

Not quite true...I have seen a Belgium 4x4 equipment outlet that supplies them....the difficult bit id trying to remember who it was...I can't find them... The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

ISTR that spigot rings are needed to fit D3 alloys on Transporter - suggesting that the centre hole of the VW rim will be too small for D3?
But I reckon there may be some BMW steel wheels that'll fit. Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead, A panels, vent panel & outriggers now disintegrated - Next years project!

BMW X5 7.5 x 17 fit but the D3 studs are too short, using only about 6 threads instead of the usual 9. I'm about to try to find longer studs as I have 8 X5 rims in the shed.

Also thank you Filo for the gearbox trick , it's a life saver !

Still alive and still driving a disco3, my second
Anyway no, the rim doesn't fit.
Better you get some 17 alloy, they're cheap.
Filo.
