Hi Simons17
I can't help with information on lanes near you but below is what I do;
A good place to start is an OS Map, you need to look for the pink dash line with crosses, this denotes a byway, there are also other routes denoted pink dots, these are other routes with public access, I have found that diffent counties treat these differently. Once you have an idea where thes are you can refer to www.trailwise.org. Using the map function on that site, you can as a guest user look up lanes and tracks within a 3k radius of the map centre. Any routes will be displayed and when seleced will provide additional information. I would always recommend you back this information up by contacting the Rights of Way department at the local council as not all byways/tracks carry rights for motor vehicles at all and some do but close for winter while others are open all year. Once you are armed with the right infomation form various sources, you should still obey any sinage at the lane locations.
Hope this helps
Darren

There is a few lanes on the outskirts but you will damage your paintwork, the best ones near here are up near scarborough and whitby.'Just because you're breathing doesn't mean you're alive'

Hi Simon, Not sure if your interested and I know its a fair distance to drive but we have a 4x4 safari in Kielder forest coming up on October 2nd. You have a good day out legally and safely driving off road and you also support the local Mountain Rescue Team at the same time.
You will also get the chance to meet a couple of other forum members as well
There are one or two locally but your best bet is NYM.
You just missed a cracking forum trip up there run by shanners last weekend on some nice non damaging lanes.

I have sent you a PM there is a very easy one near Wetwang that was featured in LRO magazine a little over a year ago. Pleasant drive up to Sir Tatton Sykes Monument.
