I've been looking over an '06 D3 manual with 90k miles on it. Went for a second look tonight and discovered that low range won't engage. A system fault message comes up 'System Fault, This Function Not Available' or similar.. The Terrain knob had been kicked off (post elsewhere) but the vehicle goes up & down on the flip button.. Not sure if there's a link between the switches in that group.. Need I worry about the low range issue? I know it's a stripdown job if it happens on a TD5 which has the manual low range selector. Nothing happens at all, no sound of it trying to engage. I suspect that low range has never been selected on the D3..Make the most of this life, you may not have a Landy or skis in the next one.

Might be worth taking the battery out and checking the connectors on the transfer box ECU.

Unless the transfer module has been fried with a jet wash. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Could it be a mechanical problem? I may have to buy the motor to find out and need to allow for any possible expense. Owner seems to just want rid and is willing to allow money to put it right. If it was a TD5 I'd walk away, as I'd know it meant a stripdown, but a D3...?? Phoning dealer for an opinion but owners opinions highly valued..

Just talked to my mech, he suggested switch for a start (all switch gear will need to be replaced ,TR,height adjust etc),or actuator on transfer box or whatever fault codes throw up.With the terrain knob having been b d,it sort of points to that.HTH

my low range switch was the same worked it back and forth a few times and now it works , sometimes stuff can get spilt in the switch.
Thanks to all. I decided not to buy it as there were too many issues, not only the low range, but bushes seemed worn and a short MoT.Make the most of this life, you may not have a Landy or skis in the next one.

Low Range won't engage
I had a similar problem; went to select Low Range, but nothing happened, and no faults on the dash computer. On the advice here, I lifted the terrain response switches (IAW Haynes Manual Ch 13) disconnected and reconnected them and all working again. Thanks for the advice.
