EPB fault that goes away on a restart

My manual D3 is coming up to five years old/50k and has twice had an EPB malfunction.

Basically when stopped at lights with the EPB applied it will not release, there are strange sounds from the rear axle and the dash beeps and lights up. Swtiching the engine off and on cures it.

Now is the module on the way out or could it be much more simple? I had been away on holiday and did about 2000 miles when this happened. I have washed the car on my return and amount of brake dust which came out of the rear calipers was immense. I will monitor the situation but this have been the issue?

Cheers

I would check the adjustment/clean it before going further.

Your symptoms were similar to mine and thats what fixed mine.

See Bodsy's guide on here Thumbs Up

Agreed, mine failed a couple of times but was fine on restart before going completely spastic and leaving me without a handbrake while towing my track car to and from an event.

clean and adjustment as per bodsy's brake bible sorted it!
