are you expecting reasoned and sensible answers to that question on here...? The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...

Look into my eyes, straight into my eyes, not around the eyes, when you wake up you will think orange is a sensible colour for a D3 and you will like the noise the MTRs and roof rack make......2012 Defender 110 XS Utility 2.2

In all seriousness that was my view. I bought mine in Dec last year and paid £30.5k for it. It had 7k miles, was at my local LR dealer (well, actually my 3rd nearest but it was where I bought my previous one) and I worked out that while I could buy another D3 and put on it what you want, in reality I wouldn't because I wouldn't bring myself, for example, to spend £1,800 for 4 lights on the roof rack or whatever. Similarly finding a D3 with a locking rear diff isn't easy. All G4s have rear air con, another relative rareity on newer models. When you add in the winch, underbody protection etc etc I didn't think price-wise it was too bad and certainly was much better equipped that anything I would get round to building.
The other thought is do you see any value, in terms of enhanced permagrin rather than monetary terms, to it being a G4 rather than a specced up HSE that is not a G4? I was unsure either way about this. The stickers and colour are a bit OTT but actually now I love it. Folk do ask about it and you get waves from kids and adults alike (and so far none of them negative two fingered types) as well as other Land-Rover drivers (more akin to driving a Defender).
Practically it is a bit harder to find car parks that it can fit in (you need 2.2m I reckon, maybe 2.15m) but it is very easy to spot when you come back to it!
In the end I took the Mrs along to see it ast the dealer and I was surprised to discover her view was exactly the same as yours: you aren't here long enough to wonder and wonder and not bother. I thought if I decide after a few months I don't like it I can flog it and if I only get £27k or so for it I would still have lost less than buying a new D110 or D4. As it turns out it seems not to have lost much value anyway but that makes no odds because I don't want to sell it.
I would go for it. Maybe go over to the g4 owners club as well, see if anyone there knows your car - it is possible the previous owner is on there and could point out any things to ensure they get fixed before you pick it up.
Bets wishes.

Parking lots: Mine is 2.07m and I regulary use 2.10m parking garages. In acces mode off-course.
Should you buy one? Difficult question. I have one because my wife didn't like the looks off the 'normal' D3. After a Camel discovery the normal D3 looks a little 'normal'?
So then I showed hear a picture off a G4. And that she liked. So I went searching and bought one.
And if Holland wins the final it's the best color to have.
So in other words, should you buy one.
Yes, because you want to.Roel

I'm with the other Craig on this. I bought mine on the basis that I would either love it, or hate it and sell within 6 months while they still had a good value, but I would rather do either of those then always think I could have done but didn't.
Only problem now is I am thinking of mods (just little things like DVD's and twin batteries and stuff) but wondering whether I should keep it genuine, as per the 06 challenge.
