Only problem now is I am thinking of mods (just little things like DVD's and twin batteries and stuff) but wondering whether I should keep it genuine, as per the 06 challenge.
FWIW, my view is it is YOUR car so you can choose what to do with it but I am saddened a bit to hear stories of cars changed beyond all recognition but adding stuff that any subsequent owner could easily reverse sounds sensible to me.

Sorry to disagree, but the vast majority of "G4 cars" are hardly Le Mans winners, they've hardly won the Dakar or even run the Camel Trophy......they are not legendary in any way....
They are, in my opinion, very cool and I would love to have one, but as Ken said - they're just orange HSEs with the accessory book thrown at them, they don't have any mystery and they haven't rebuilt any orphanages or even saved any baby rabbits from a nasty farmer.....
Seriously - I don't see why there would be such hysteria to keep one standard in the same way that you should keep a 1960s works Mini Cooper S standard....most of the G4s on the roads today were press cars anyway
If I was you and I could get away with it, I would buy it without thinking twice....top spec, nice accessories, rear locking diff, rear air con.....fantastic....
...but after I'd bought it, I would just do what I wanted to and wouldn't worry about keeping it "authentic" in any way....

I agree Paul but I am not that keen when someone buys a G4, strips it of all its stuff, adds go-faster stripes and big wheels and sells it as blinged up as happened recently with a G4 RRS.
BUT as I said it is the owners car and it is only a car so hey ho. Lots more important stuff happening in the world.
Cheers

As per Craig above, of the 3 FFRR's that were supposed to go to Mongolia, but were not prepped, 2(?) were bought by dealers who had them resprayed black and sold as 'normal' cars. In fact if you really wanted a V8 D3 a couple of years ago, it would have been cheaper to buy a G4 and strip and respray it, and sell the goodies on ebay to pay for the conversion. So although the 'heritage' is limited - certainly all the RHD 06 challenge D3's were support vehicles, and the fleets were not exactly 'challenged' as much as some of the CT vehicles, certainly I have a desire to keep it recognisably a G4.
As I said, if the modifications are in keeping with the vehicle (ie exped or wild country camping prep) then that is probably OK, but not sure about interior mods.......Craig

Fully agree with the two sentiments above...
Blinging them up no....but additional mods to make them even better (as per any other D3) wouldn't worry me in the least 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG
