You may want to make your displeasure known and never grace their premises again.
Although I suggest you are a lot less polite about it ![Smile Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif)
Suggest I shag my engine if it fails

MOT's are done at a government test centre (there are six in the province I believe)
There they have all the kit & run the MOT on a production line like process (i.e. theres more than one bloke doing it)
They do put the car over a pit like thing & have all sorts of hydraulic lifters to test aspects of suspension a chassis + a rolling road with all the brake tests & emmisssons tests etc....
On the whole they are pretty fair...if you have say a tyre with a split or a bump that hasnt been seen beforehand they generaly give you a couple of hours to produce said vehicle with replaced tyre .......then they hand over test pass certificate.
Obviously not being connected to any workshop company or dealership they have no vested interests.... BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

In Northern Ireland they are, and you are 100% correct about the process. Similar process in Germany with TUV as well. I think the rest of Europe's equivalent is stricter, but some have a bi-annual test instead of an annual one.

After finally collecting the car from the stealers,5 days after taking it in,With numerous jobs not completed and now with an oil leek which didnt previously exist, I took it for another MOT test at a reputable and reliable garage, where all my vehicles usually go.
The £600+ job which they quoted on the MOT at LR, Front and rear Ball joints, Linkage arms, streering links etc... which they suggested I delay my belt service for, was no more.
The guys in the garage carried out a thorough MOT, as always, which took a full hour.
As you can imagine 105k miles in 3 1/2 years , this motor does some miles and needs to be spot on ALL THE TIME so no expense is spared in maitainance, thats why it goes in to an independant at 7 k miles instead of 15k.
The Car cost £29 in repairs to pass the MOT. Disbelief at what I was told at Land Rover Service.
The MOT guy failed it because a screw in the number plate was'nt the correct colour( the yellow cap had come off)
and a exhaust bracket was not up to scratch and had a bit of weld. That was it.
So that has reassured me that my Gut Feeling is working well and my suspicions were correct.
Back to the MOT...they charged me for it and it failed on all those bits prior to the service....which was for the belts...
Correct me if im wrong but doesnt the engine have to be revved quite hard for the emmisions tests???When its in for belts....unbelievable.
Anyway, the old belts were left in the vehicle as I had requested and we shall not be gracing there darkest door ever again.

You are correct. And that's why the tester should verify the timing belts are in sound condition before testing. Faultmate MSV2 EXTREME
