I know the feeling - they can see through anything.
The words I dread are "Is there something you'd like to tell me?" Never sure if she really knows something, or if she's just fishing.... Disco 5 HSE Lux

DSL I wouldn't take much notice of the part stickers, the dates on these are when the part is made and they can be hanging around for ages in the factory waiting to be fitted to the vehicle. The only way to find out when the car was made is to work at solihull and use their database!

Not so, sir. The production line stickers on vehicle parts is a very good indicator as to when the vehicle was manufactured. It isn't good for the actual day it rolled off the line, but it is good enough to make a very educated guess within a two-week window.

I make parts for Landrover and I've seen parts that were made earlier this year jan/feb time still hanging around where I work waiting to be shipped to landrover!!!
All the stickers on the mechanical and electrical bits on mine are within 3 days of 21st of Jan which is when it was made (saw the sickers on the windscreen when it was delivered).
The stickers I have seen on the underside of the seats and other bits of trim are older though.Zermatt silver 06 reg.

Which is why I said the "production line" stickers. The dates on these refer specifically to when the parts are called from stock to production line - a good example being suspension parts.
I don't dispute what you say, it is just a question of what to look for. What you make does not have production line information on it..........
When we did the factory tour, at some points on the production line the parts bins that the guys pick from only had about 10-15 items in each. They run a 'just-in-time' system, which seemed to be cutting it very fine in some cases!Matt
Mine has the build date on a label next to the bonnet latch.
And that is all that matters when it comes to sell it. The Dealer is only interested in the build date and not the registration date when it comes time to trade it in.
Mine was built Feb 05 and most stickers on the parts I've seen are Feb 05. It was registered on 22nd April 05. It takes about 6 - 8weeks to ship o/s.
One of the guys at work just took delivery of a Ssangyong Rexton (terrible looking thing) and it had a build date of Mar 05 and it was first registered last week. Now that is sitting around - 14 months.

Will have a look, mind U remembr seeing a sheet of paper with a date of going into storage end March 2006 so sould be OK. Does't really matter as its the reg date that's important (in the UK) but when the missus asks why such a gap in serial numbers on the VIN, I have to get creative!

The VIN number doesnt tell you build date, its the model year it shows. Mine is an 06 model (from the VIN and the bits on it as standard which the 05 didn't have), was registerd 24th Nov 05, and built August 05 (the headlights have a date of 20/7/05 on them).

To be completely pedantic, the VIN can tell you exactly when the vehicle was built - if you stick the number into the Microcat or WDS system it tells you that and a whole load more about the vehicle from colour to whether it has a tow bar fitted.......but you do need to have access to the software.
