| HDC fault and lowered suspension |
|
Whilst driving along at 70, all the bongs went off and the HDC fault message came up it then said "special programs off", then "suspension lowered" the suspension went down and a amber warning light came on. the suspension would not reset to normal mode, so i pulled in. I switched off and on and it system checked any started fine!! it has done this 5 times maybe only once a day and always when at higher speed, it has just been in for its 75000 service and has never done it before?
anyone any ideas?

Mine did the same; Break pedal switch.
I had dealer do it under warranty, but only took a few minutes - so I guess you could do it yourself? 1 Wife, 3 Kids and a 'Dog called Tilly'

Me too. Had the same symptoms, and eventually cured it by cleaning the brake pedal switch. Probably could have replaced it, but it was easy to strip down, and it was as new inside, except for cleaning the contacts. 10 minutes and zero pounds, and haven't had the problem ever since. Drove me mad trying to diagnose it though. The boys on here helped me solve it in the end
Could also be the infamous issue with shorting filaments in stop/tail light bulbs though. It is known to have the same symptoms. A couple of threads here:

I have a similar issue but have not yet checked the brake pedal switch. is this located close to the brake pedal inside the car? or is it hidden somewhere esle?
Thanks

There are a few posts on here regarding genuine bulbs. If you use patented parts they can cause a feedback loop and set your D3 into shut down mode.
CHECK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE GENUINE ONES IF NOT CHENGE THEM.
Good luck keep us informed

They don't have to be genuine ones, just not cheapies. See my link in my last posting. Halfords do some heavy duty ones, complete with central filament support so no way they're gonna short. See above D3 TDV6 HSE '54 plate Maya Gold (current)

You have to drop a small plastic panel, using a pozi screwdriver to get at it, but the switch is mounted just above the pedal. Easy to fit/remove by twisting as I recall. D3 TDV6 HSE '54 plate Maya Gold (current)

I just had this fault with my car, although got a message I had limited gears (not sure about lowered height). Anyway, I reported it at the service and was told:
"Checked fault codes and found P117E-00 fuel volume regulator control exceeded minimum control limit. Traced to internal high pressure fuel pump failure".
They replaced the high pressure fuel pump under warranty to rectify the problem. No idea what the fuel pump has to do with the HDC, but there you go! Just got it back, so not sure if rectified (only got the warning once anyway).
Cheers
Wade.

I have had my car tracked and replaced my 18" Alloys to 20"RRS VSpokes. Got the same warning not long after leaving the garage.
Any suggestions as I doubt that the upgrade wheels would reflect the error, however the steering alignment sensors is something new to me. D3 V8 Black SE Auto --- LPG (300 BHP)

Changing your wheels wouldn't cause that.
The amount of money I spent and wasted on getting my tracking done, but actually the D3 needs to have 4 wheel alignment on a fairly decent piece of kit. I had mine done locally, at a car body repair shop, as they had the gear for when they are rebuilding cars. All 4 wheels are adjusted in every plane. None of the tyre places near here have good enough equipment, and some of the big ones like ATS told me that 4 wheel alignment technology didn't even exist! It's well worth doing though, and it made a massive difference to the drive, and the tyres wear. D3 TDV6 HSE '54 plate Maya Gold (current)

I had the car retracked and all is well now. It was pointing to 2pm on the original attempt but I could not take it back straight away.
Iain from 10forCash did say that the steering sensor will have picked up the incorrect allignment with wise words spoken. D3 V8 Black SE Auto --- LPG (300 BHP)
