If you haven't done it before, take one light out and familiarise yourself with the lever.....and note it's current position! Switch it over, and then try and do the other insitu. Once you've done it once or twice, you should be able to make the change without removing the lights.

One other tip, download and copy the relevant section of the manual in French to be able to show the Gendarmes that you actually don't need a deflector lens.

If it's not apparent by this stage, only those of glove size small (and below) should attempt to do this with their hand, else find a suitable tool to insert.

Isn't it easier just to buy deflectors? Seems a lot of effort to do this mechanically ...

Did it over the weekend Thumbs Up

The worst bit is releasing the top grille catches and then having to pull the grille out from the 2 bottom catches. Needs a bit of faith Whistle

The lights are retained an metal sliding catches which just need moving into the correct position to release the headlight units. Surprised how light the units are Exclamation

Still a bit of a chore for what is an easy switch flick on other cars.

Have taken the lights out and noticed that the levers are in different positions. Does anyone know which position is correct for UK driving. Off to Belgium next week so really want to be confident with the system as I would really rather not use deflectors.

As I'm off to France and Switzerland in May, I have been checking out the recommended method, from the handbook, for changing the headlight aim. It took me about 5 minutes to remove grille, one head light unit and disconnect wiring, thus enabling me to reach the switch to change over the beam. It's a bit of pain, but is fairly straightforward. The lever is in the up position for UK, so has to be moved down for abroad.

Cheers JRL2W that's a big help. Incidentally I have an XS in Nara Bronze. Did Bi-Xenons come as standard? I didn't have choice but do miss having xenons. Thanks again. George

I'm pretty sure external beam deflectors don't work with the Xenons as they use a "Projector" arrangement where the beam pattern is formed internally.

Have just driven down to the alps and having adjusted the lights they are brilliant. Even adjusted the auto high beam for RH driving.

If you are relying on the stickers beware. Looking at the ones available on the ferry the D4 isn't listed.

The tourist lever simply cuts off the 15 degree part of the beam that lights the left of the road in the UK, this is the bit that would blind oncoming drivers in Europe. Point your lights at a wall and you'll see what I mean. Thus, the headlamps are RHD / LHD market specific.

Don't EVER EVER use the stick on beam deflectors. The lamps are designed to work with that clear lens unobstructed so putting anything in the way creats a hot spot that will melt the lens. I've seen it happen.

In the 3 years I've had my D3 SE I've travelled to and from France about 30 times or more. I've never adjusted the lights and have never been flashed by oncoming drivers. If you do a search on here, you'll find that the consensus is there's no need to adjust.
