Was this an olympics question?
Surely an 8mm discus is going to fly further than a 6mm one Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead, A panels, vent panel & outriggers now disintegrated - Next years project!
Wouldn't that depend upon the launch tragectory, velocity, technique of the discus thrower, ambient atmospheric conditions...
I still think mine will be better. It's going to be 7.65mm
Edit: Yes, Ent! 7.62 would be much better

Its called horses for courses, it depends on what you want it for, when you want it for, how long you want it for and how deep your pockets are. At the end of the day it is down to your own choice.

OK guys, what do you need to know about Aluminium, I make the stuff so I know a bit about the subject. The best grade for use on our cars is called 5083 series cast or rolled plate. (sometimes know as marine grade) In fact the very first Discovery3 "Functional Cube" which is a full sized master model of the car that is used by the engineers/designer's to view the finsished product and make final adjustments to the design before it goes into production was made entirley using 5083 aluminium cast blocks, produced by my company, which are then CNC machined to form every external and internal component that are then bolted together to form the whole car which then becomes the 'Master pattern' or mould and all dimentions for every single component are taken from this.

I went with 6mm due to the ground clearance issues.
