Mine was just like PCH's above.
Dealer tightened it up today and suggested I booked it into the body shop to have a re-inforcing plate fitted to both sides of top mounted strut. The inside plate would be added by going up inside the D pillar by taking the light out.Nov '54' TDV6 SE Manual 25,000 miles - Excellent !! Don't buy an Auto until you have driven a Manual !!!!

Thats what mine is going in for whilst I go on holiday. It is a two day job in the bodyshop.
Your dealer is spot on, the TSB tells them to inspect for loose mountings, and to apply the repair if damage to the mount has occured, which in your case it clearly has.
Mine went one stage further and the nut broke free.

Oz delivered Disco3, 4 months old, 10,500KMs on the clock.
The right hand strut fixing was working loose (about a threads worth - the washer could be moved)... will keep an eye on it and mention to dealer at first service (12,000 Kms).
Thanks for the heads up guys, don't fancy someone having to weld plates / re-paint my beloved car. (Had enough trouble with sodding compressors - car is on it's third now). 2014 Disco 4 HSE (MY2013)

I would nip it up yourself, the movement can break the captive nut, then you won't be able to tighten it. Tell your dealer you have tightened it yourself, then they can pass the info on to LR.

Thanks Gareth, you're right. I just read through this entire thread and it looks like this can easily become a complete knightmare (2 days in the body shop... bl@@dy h3ll !)
I guess I was just being lazy I'll tighten it tomorrow.

Tailgate strut loose.
Hi, Thanks for the information on the tailgate struts. I checked mine, and yes, the RHS was finger loose. I exposed some more thread, and put Locktite on, and retightened. Tightened OK. Have to use a thin-sectioned 13mm spanner though. Checked the LHS, not as loose, but needed tightening. Did so with the same procedure as for the RHS.
Noticed that when the tailgate is opened, and its movement upwards is halted by the normal operation of the hinge mechanism and gas struts, that the body panel through which the (previously loose) nut is attached flexes somewhat. Thin panels here, I think
Thanks again for the information.

I very interesting survey this has turned out to be. I can presume from the replies that the majority (a small majority) who have found the strut mounting to be tight and OK, have not posted a message telling so.
The fact that 57 votes have found the right hand or both struts loose, against 59 that found both struts tight tells us that possibly half of all D3's made are going to have potential problems with the mounting in the not too distant future.
Don't forget, when checking the mounting you need to lift the tailgate to take the weight off the strut mounting and then check it.
I am going to drop my car off later today for the repair procedure.

What is the point of LR dealers?
I read this thread whilst away on business. My wife was already taking the car in for the left door mirror to be fixed (its decided it won't fold in anymore), so suggested she ask about the struts issue. Unfortunately she forgot to take the TSB number I'd e-mailed from this list.
The dealer's attitude was amazing - essentially "don't be stupid, you're husband is confused. there are problems with the RRS hatch, not the D3". However, apparently they looked at the struts anyway and declared no problem.
I got home last night (about 10 hours after the dealer visit) - checked the struts straight away and sure enough the right strut was loose - not significantly, but enough for the washer to rattle. Left strut ok.
This morning, I shall complain to the dealer. Not that it will get me anywhere...
And we have to go back to the dealer next week for a new mirror to be fitted, because despite telling them the problem 5 days before my wife visited, they do not have the parts in stock. "Parts not in stock" was a recurring problem during our D2 ownership. It may be only 20 mins for the dealer to fit the new part, but its an hours journey each way to get to the dealer....
/rant off
Thanks to the list for the tip on the struts...

Tail Gate Struts
Checked the nuts on my two week old car to find they were both tight. Had the car booked into the dealer today as the radio and CD have frozen and took the opportunity to ask if they had implemented the TSB regarding the torque relaxation of the tail gate struts when they did the PDI. They didn't know but said they would look at it. They couldn't fix the radio saying that they would need to speak to LR, but were of the opinion that both gas struts need to be replaced. I said that I understood the problem to be related to the nuts becoming loose and need the application of some Loctiite, but they assured me that both struts need to be replaced? Who am I to argue!!TDV6 Base 7 Seater Auto, Vienna Green

It would be interesting to find out in which time-interval from the purchase this problem first time appeared. And how often you open the tailgate, driving on "bad" roads.

RH & LH side nuts both loose (about one turn). Got to it just in time I'd say. Car is about 6 months old.
Easy to do and certainly wouldn't wait for dealer to fix..
Thanks for the tip..What's the point.... it all comes out in the wash anyway!
