Tailgate Strut Bolts

Right side loose about 3/4 turn - manufactured 08/05 - glad that this forum exists and members are so diligent.

Checked door stays also but they are tight.

In keeping with the thread my right strut is loose ( about a turn and a half )
pardon my ignorance but when you are all talking about applying "loctite" to the thread, are you talking about plain old super glue or is there some special automotive equivalent Question Oh and I seem to have the same "fat" spanners as some others!! will have to take the strut off first.

Loctite is a brand and they make several grades of 'threadlock'. Probably available from Halfords and other, even better, retailers...

Loctite - thread lock or equivalent compund would be recommended.
I've used some 'Loctite' 638 retaining compound that we use at work.
If you haven't got some why not try your LR dealer for their recommendation!!

Tip collection for new owners

Just thinking about a handy collection of these "what to check first and then frequently when you pick up your new disco" tips... Mine will arrive in April and would find such a checklist very useful. Maybe a sticky thread in the "Technical" forum with links to these discussions Question

Right strut loose on mine

Guys,

Checked mine today, just the right hand one that needed several turns, it was about 2mm out from the body.

Used old style 1/2 inch thin spanner which worked fine!!

LH tight, RH about two turns loose. Seems to be a trend.

Tightened without problem, but I'll give it about a week and check to see if the tailgate action is working it loose.

Booth red rusty, so obviously no lubricant applied when it was serviced in January Sad
