D3 Knocking sound in Boot....?? |
|
Hi All,
Just wondering could some of you give some direction in relation to a knocking sound that has developed in the boot of my 2007 Discovery 3.
My D3 has just been serviced end of last week...
The sound only occurs when I drive over a large bump in the road or sink in a pot hole...no noise on corners, braking or good roads...
It sounds like some thing mechanical is knocking against something....
I've checked the tool try in the boot but everything their appears to be fixed securly and doesn't seem to be making the noise...
I've tried rocking the shocks a bit and no noise from them...All boot trays seem fine and storage compartments appear secure....???
Any ideas...?????...

As per BCP, although worth checking to see if your Disco3 gonads have a problem. There are two swinging weights (harmonic dampers) behind the rear bumper at each corner. Sometimes tow electrics come loose and restrict the range of the swing and that can lead to knocking noises. It can also lead to people feeling quite sick in the rear of the car too. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I had a similar knocking noise in mine and found the alloy wheel locking nut adaptor thingy had come out of the polystyrene tray below the jack and was banging against wheelarch over large bumps and potholes, but not much else...

Cheers...
I tightened up the spare wheel last night and still have the knocking but not as bad...
sTill noticable when I drive over a large bump...
I'm going to remove the spare tonight compeltely from the back and then drive without the spare and see if the noise is still there...
I've booked it in to a LR Dealer for Monday anyhow if I'm unsucceful in sourcing the problem tonight...
i'll keep you posted...
