To Flush or Not to Flush? |
|
I'm going to give it a 5000m oil change and filters. Should I give it a flush? If so any recommends on brands of flush treatment?

wouldnt bother at 5000 miles , it will just cost you twice as much in oil !!
mine didnt need doing until 92,000 miles
EDIT - Sorry - guess you are talking about engine oil not gearbox oil !! Duncan

Brands....Yorkshire Water usually clears out any nasties left in our sump I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

Every 5k is too often IMHO, wasting money / oil. Every 7.5k at the very least I reckon. Remember every time you drain the oil and change the filter, when you start up again, the pump has to get the oil round the engine again, causing a fair delay in the oil light going out, (I could actually hear mine clattering more than usual during this delay, on the one occasion I have done it on this car ), doing this too often does more harm than good TBH.

Unnecessary quote removed
stop the fuel pump from operating (fuse, one of the sensors) and then crank it for a bit - helps circulate the oil without the stress of the engine running

Wouldn't use an engine flush with fully synthetic oil, every other service / oil change with normal 'dead tree' oil

Makes no difference, all the oil galleries still have the old oil in them so lubrication is still there just not oil pressure - hence the noise from the hydraulic tappets
anyone want to guess how many millilitres of oil are used on it's factory run test?
