Got possibly one or two problems re power delivery.
Issue 1]
Just towed the tintent over the last bank holiday week.
Normally I sit around 60/70mph on motorways etc and the D3 pulls the [light single axle] tintent effortlessly.
On inclines [over the Penines] I can easily maintain that speed or more if required
However this year it's struggled.
For example at 60mph on an incline whilst overtaking the speed dropped to 47mph.
Even when I floored the throttle - nothing, apart from dropping down gear and revs rising - no pick up on speed!
Meanwhile the Turbo is whistling away big time!
Turbo had been replaced in late Dec.
Could I have just have lost my JE tune if dealer overwrote it?
Is it a gunged up Intercooler or collapsing/split turbo hoses?
Issue 2]
Also in slow corners it drives like a pig!
Hit the accelerator coming out of a slow bend - nothing!! for what appears to be around a second - then woosh, sudden acceleration with grey/brown smoke out the back.
Drives ok through the bends on Command Shift with instant pick up.
Is this related to my towing problem or a separate issue.
If so is it the gearbox programming??
Booked into delaers to have a look when in for rear hatch latch - but not confident in them diagnosing.
Any ideas? ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Ron, this sounds remarkably like my old bus before I traded her in. Mine was really struggling at lower speeds, there was no pickup and no down change unless the throttle was applied heavily which resulted in a sudden surge of power.
I never got to the bottom of it, and suspected gearbox issues. The other thing that crossed my mind was a problem with the accelerator potentiometer.

Did you also have power supply issues at higher speed when towing? ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Is you fan coming on all the time. mine was like this, but not as slow as 47mph when my intercooler was bunged up.
I thought it was clean but when I took it all to bits it was full of clay. i removed it all and cleaned it out and ..... whoooosh.... like a new car Duncan

The accelerator is 'fly by wire' ie no physical cable between pedal and engine. Just electronics. The back of the pedal is effectively a variable resistor (potentiometer) that moves with the pedal.
The only other high speed issues were a constant surging of revs/power when under load. It did not seem to restrict power, it just would not deliver it smoothly, resulting in a regular up/down rev fluctuation, with a 1 second cycle, of about 200 rpm.
Again, I never sorted it out before she went.

Not sure Dunc, if it did the fan the noise would have been drowned out by the whistling of the turbo and revs [when it changed down.] ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

I think your big clue is the turbo whistling. My current car, and my last one never whistled at all. The turbo is/was only very faintly audible at certain speeds.
Maybe a close inspection of pipework will reveal a split?

Sounds like a small split in a turbo hose, most likely the small rubber pipe that goes onto the top (outlet) side of the turbo, or the one at the front of the engine

After my earlier thread on poor power delivery this week,

it all just got a load worse.
Issue started earlier this week when towing.
However went out earlier and experienced the following:
Did a twisty half mile of minor road fairly briskly.
Towards the last few bends the turbo started whistling on accelerator pick up.
Got to a hill and as I was climbing, D3 was slowing [eventually to walking pace] and turbo was whistling big time.
Temperature guage went up to max with red warning light binging on.
Over the hill and gently moving away trying not to let the turbo whistle, the temperature guage dropped back to normal.
After stopping, engine off for a few minutes [whilst I phoned my LR dealer] same thing happend at the next hill.
So now, even on gentle accelleration out of junctions in my home town, turbo whistles as I gently accelerate up to 20/25mph.
No Messages pop up on the dash.
The fact that it has got progressively worse seems to me like a collapsed/split/disconnected turbo hose.
But then with the temperature guage rising and falling so quickly is it the Intercooler?
Dealer is going to have a quick look tomorrow at 8am, but would like to go armed with as much info as possible.
All comments appreciated. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

I'm not that technical but would a split turbo hose be pretty easy to spot? 2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Haven't been underneath to check Andy.
It was raining!!!
Belts were changed at the 105k service.
Now on 126k.
btw, Turbo changed in late Dec 08 DM
The Temp gauge moves up to Overheat and moves back to Normal within seconds.
You can visually see it moving up as power gets worse,
then back down again once no exertion is applied on the engine.
The liquids wouldn't cool that quickly.

I raised in a new thread as the power decrease got severely worse and problem has escalated to near undrivability.
Due to this I needed some input ASAP. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
