Your pants on fire would truly deserve a new thread ...especially if you had photos 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Quote:The Temp gauge moves up to Overheat and moves back to Normal within seconds.
You can visually see it moving up as power gets worse,
then back down again once no exertion is applied on the engine.
The liquids wouldn't cool that quickly.
I reckon its the thermostat. Its the same style as TD4/TD5, in a plastic housing. If they jam closed, it overheats, and goes into limp mode which would explain the lack of power, and for whatever reason, it always cools down very quickly after...
Although, i have only ever seen this fault on TD4/TD5, so may or may not be the same fault... My D3 Build Thread

Well thanks DM, that's really helped a lot.
Just came back from the dealer this morning with the issue more confussing than ever.
This mornings scenario went like this:
Setting off with cold engine, no problems experienced [like they had last night coming home].
Engine gets to warm and the turbo whirring starts even when on the straights.
Drove the vehicle gently as I didn't want it packing in before I got to dealer.
When within a few miles of dealer, I noticed cabin temperature was still cold even with heater controls nudged up to 24 in AC mode.
Switched heating to manual - heat then came on.
Then put back to AC mode.
So because closer to the dealer, I thought I'd boot it to induce the fault.
Fault didn't re-appear.
Started slowly then booted it up a hill near the dealer taking it a few miles further down the road.
Still no problem.
Explained all to dealer, they had it in workshop but came up with no applicable error codes.
Went out for another blast with mechanic as passenger.
Nothing, everything was fine.
Drove all the way home [booting it occassionally] - Nothing!!!
Was totally dumfounded and went to post my findings on here.
And that's where your last post DM, seems to stack up.
DM
btw, Just recalled a few weeks ago that after coming back to my D3 and starting the engine to keep me warm whilst on mobile, no heat was coming through into cabin.
So Thermostat it is !!
But still wondering why the turbo was whistling away? ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Wow, that's a long time ago!!
No, wasn't thermostat ended up it was the oiler cooler leaking fluid which was then evaporating - hence no fluid drops on ground.
Engine was going into safety mode because all coolant had been lost. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
