I don't buy the less to go wrong argument. My HSE has had problems, but none that could have not happened on a base model (5 seat excepted) I haven't heard os sunroof, electric seat, Logic 7 or Premium Satnav specific problems. Buy what is important to you and what you can afford and enjoy it. My parents have an SE, another mate a base model, they are all very happy with their cars as they do what they want.

'haven't heard os sunroof, electric seat, Logic 7 or Premium Satnav specific problems' well no the current disco has only been in production since 2004, so it's very early days for things to pack up from constant wear & tear yet, rather than actual mechnical/electical faults in manufacture & assembly.

I was working on the fact it was a keeper - depends what timescale it's a keeper for I suppose. I have lost count of the number of older top end cars I have been in where the elecric sunroof has packed up, a window motor has blown etc.

The manual box on my SE is just fine - save yourself the £.

The best way of managing your budget is to make sure you are getting a £3k+ discount.

I got £3750 off my SE six months ago and was happy enough.

I think its wise to point out to people what discounts are out there as some dealers do try it on. I went to three dealers and the other two offered £500 and £1500. The £1500 discount man said he would have matched the £3750. That didn't really make me warm to him funnily enough.

I have a Dec 2004 S with an auto box, dealer fitted leather seats and Xenons (which incidentally have already been replaced due to condensation inside them - common problem). Previous bad experience with electric seats in Discoveries put me off them and I have no problem with having to position it myself. Sunroof on this S was an extra and it has already leaked - I tried to convince myself that it was going to be different on this one and it is not!! HOwever, it has been fixed. Very happy with heated seats and screen. Would agree with not spending too much on everything if you are keeping it, it can get very expensive fixing the silly little things once warranty time is up. I love my car to bits, and have always had Disco's but now prefer to be a bit cautious - I'm intending to keep this for quite some time.
