| Can you tow trailer with maxxraxx cycle fitting? |
|
I have Maxxraxx cycle carrier fitted to discovery 3 swanneck/ detachable towbar.
Works perfectly as cycle carrier eg 4 bikes;access to boot etc.
Understand there may be some issues using a trailer with this set up.
Any information/experience would be helpful.
More interested in whether I can hire a trailer that will work with the fitting on the towbar (less need to tow with bikes)

technically you can, which is why I have one..............however I haven't towed much with it in place yet. I do know people who have had problems where the trailer hitch bent the MaxxRaxx fitting enough to need replacement. end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Give them a ring or visit them, they aren't far from you. My understanding was they now don't fit the clamp to removable tow bars, but I can't remember if it only applied to alko hitches. I have one fitted to a multi height towbar and it works fine. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Mine worked fine 'til I changed the van ,new van came with alko stabiliser which is wider than the gap between ball and cycle carrier foot. Modified foot for carrier is 'under development' according to Max Pot Noodle Challenge Winner 2011

Hi adibaugh,
When and where did you get the new foot. I asked Maxxraxx for a kit for my D3 (I tow a caravan with Alko stabiliser) and was told It was not possible, I should change the Alko or the towbar  ... They din't tell anything about that modified foot...

I have a modified foot but its for a Flange towbar..

as far as I'm aware - limitation applies to alko stabilisers - i.e. if you have a winterhoff hitch then apparently no issues.
I'd assume "standard" trailer hitches would be OK - however, assumption is the mother of all  -ups, so as suggested above - have a word with Max.

if you have alko stabiliser you should have a prober tow ball wicth is diffeant to normal tow ball.  convoy For Heroes record holder (348)

I tow a caravan with a fixed towball on a winterhoff hitch- works really well and have had no problems other than mounting the fixing point for the maxxraxx on the tow bar- The screws with the maxxraxx had a lower force rating than the original land rover ones-

I called Maxxracks and asked can you tow with a ALKO hitch and maxxracks and detachable towbar... they say NO.
So i got a roofrack. Got our Disco... Love it.....
