So what is the actual effect of having the oil in the pipe?
Is it that the oil contaminates the brake fluid?

Oil in the booster you gadually loose boost pressure. Oil will eventually cause the seals to weaken too. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

so...any oil in the pipe isn't good |
|
Evening everyone,
I can't remember whether any oil in the pipe means get it all replaced asap, also what do people feel when using the brake pedal, less stopping effect and the brake pedal feels harder to push?
Thanks

Its a gradual loss of braking effect, I dont think that you will get NO brakes when applied. Just get it to the dealers soonest, and all will be ok.
If you have oil in the vaccum, then already the brake fluid is contaminated, so you will need NEW
Vac Pump - Rear of engine O/S bank
Servo
Master Cylinder
Brake Fluid
Well thats what was done to mine, lets just hope they do a cleaner job on yours as mine was burning off spillage for a few hundred miles, and it stank

With ours, if you pressed the pedal several times in quick succession you would lose most of the vacuum pressure and therefore servo assistance. I can assure you it is difficult to stop without the servo!
Dealer was very supportive, vehicle collected by LRA, hire car provided and all done quickly.
I would suggest getting it done! Discovery 3 2.7 V6 TDi | Manual | S spec | Zermatt Silver | 2006 | 20% tints to rear | Audio Connectivity Module | Nokia CK-15W car kit | | Xenons | Disco 4 LED rear lights

So... when the vacuum fails pressing the pedal becomes easier or just the opposite much harder, sorry guys (long long day with all this H1N1 rubbish)
Cheers

It goes hard then drops to the floor. Unless the oil is dripping out you should be ok TBH.

After dealer had done the fix, pour a bucket of hot water over the area to get rid of the fluid left over. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Does anyone have a photo handy of where to open the vacuum tube on a LHD D3?
I'm guessing from the previous messages that you need to remove the engine cover and hunt around behind the engine but has anyone done it and have a photo in their gallery by any chance?

Well, one month and (as its been a busy one) maybe two thousand miles later and there is oil in the line once again. This time I've decided to call out LRA - the AA man has just been and will be arranging for the car to be recovered tomorrow morning. Here we go again....

Update, see above, booked my car in to have the PO17 Recall fitted this morning at Trivett Land Rover at Alexandria.
I was called an hour after dropimg off the car and advised that they didn't have authority to proceed from LR Australia. I showed them the paperwork showing my VIN as in the middle of the series requiring the work and was told that they couldn't do the work until they received a notification from LRA. I advised the service rep that mine already had oil in the pipe and clearly needed the safety recall/modification. (He was well aware of the recall)
I think that this LR3 site is excellent but we appear get info quicker than LR can move to actually do the work.
I will get onto LR customer service Australia and see if I can get them to speed up the process.
I quoted the recall number PO17 to Trivett when I booked the car in and should have been advised of any the issue then, not after wasting time dropping the car off.
