Blanking EGR - Good or Bad?
Am thinking about blanking the EGR off on my 54 plate D3 but just trying to find out whether it is worth doing or not.
Does it help with power?
Cheers

fastrac, are you having probs with them then. I was on the understanding its the later Models that are particular in failing. Well thats what the LRA man said yesterday (Charlie Brice- A very nice man indeed). He said the earlier models seem to be ok.

My old 54 plate HSE had 120000 miles + on the clock, and they were fine. I would not blank off if they are working ok.
Alternatively, blank them off and then it doesn't matter if they fail in the future or not! Your vehicle, your choice - just do a search for EGR to discover the many threads on the subject. It's been discussed to death on here Previously:
2005 D3 2.7 TDV6 S
1984 90 2.25 Petrol CSW
1992 90 200TDi Hard Top
1995 Discovery ES 300TDi
2003 90 TD5 Truck Cab
Whats the date range that these ERG's go from being ok, to not ok ?

I dont think you can pin point a date range of failure, i have a 55 plate RRS that had valves at 21k because they failed,
i also have 2 early D3's that has done 55k ish and they have not needed them valves are still ok.
My chioce was to blank off them all because i dont want power loss if they decide to fail when i need the car/s most.
RE a power gain,,, naahhhh not realy,
just peice of mind for me knowing if they go wrong it wont affect me or the way the car drives, and it also helps to keep that c*ap out of the inlet manifold.

Pete,
EGR blanking is only doable in pre 2007 model or also for Euro4?

I should be able to do it then as it is a 54 plate D3.
How much do you think it would cost?

Well in my experience:
If the EGRs are working properly AND you remove the butterfly valve then blanking the EGRs will much reduce the low-speed hesitation the TDV6 is prone to on roundabouts for instance. As well as others have said, protecting against the consequences of failure.
If the EGRs fail/stick open then you can end up with the charge intake air severely polluted with EG and power will take a dive, several have reported symptoms between minor power/mpg loss through to severe power loss, probably depending on how open the valve(s) stick.
We have a tuned RRS (butterfly still fitted and EGRs unblanked) and D3 tuned (same tune Co) and blanked/butterfly removed. The difference between them in driveability is VERY noticeable.Cheers
