Front Humming Noise!!
in the last couple of days iv noticed a "humming noise" coming from what appears to be the front right wheel. most noticeable in 5th gear @ about 80kph driving in straight line and goes then on briefly when on bends. would i be right in saying it's a wheel bearing. only had 45k (72,000km) service few weeks back. 79,000km on clock now! any body on here have this issue with similar milage or wat i could expect from dealer when i ring them with my problem!07 Discovery 3 TDV6 Commercial (Java Black) with:

Jack the vehicle and check the bearings. If they have gone you can tell your dealer what wrong.
Could also be the A pillar trim.In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I had a front right bearing go last september and the noise sounds very similar. Mine went quieter around bends as the pressure shifted.
Sounds like they could be in the early stages of failure. Or it could be something complety unrelated Duncan

ok guys, cheers for that. Going in thursday to be checked out. Said to guy in service's that its possibly wheel bearing, and all i got was "Oh she must have big milage up on the clock" & "we'v only ever replaced one or two bearings on them before, in other words we'l be taking you for a ride! now was not speaking to fella i usually deal with, any idea wat cost of bearing is or wat could expect to pay. understand its a wearing part, so can i expect to be caughing up considering the miles/km's its covered! 07 Discovery 3 TDV6 Commercial (Java Black) with:

Jack that corner grasp wheel top and bottom and rock (given the weight it may require some oomph), you should be able to feel any play (bad), if no movement then no play (good) or insufficient oomph
Have you searched the site? Cheers

thanks for the response although I feel it was given just to try and insult me. you're really no good at it are you and yes did a site search where there is lots of info on changing stuff but lacking in the actual diagnosing in the first place.

Not at all but if you look for it I guess you'll find it. Re searching, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt in future, perhaps you could do the same to newbies??? There really isn't any point in flaming a newbie as if they are the root cause of all evil (the site being "double the size", "rubbish question" etc), no individual newbie causes that.
Covers a bit about checking wheel bearings, can be very difficult to pinpoint by noise as the suspension and chassis can transmit the noise around the car, especially in the early stages.Cheers

We have a similar type of noise that turns into a 'wup, wup' type sound when going into/around corner - seems to be coming from front passenger side. Only done just over 25k miles too
Will get dealer to check when she goes in on 1 May for both EGR valves to be replaced
cheers

Sound's typical wheel bearing noise - your tyres aren't low on tread are they, I have had something similar out of Pirelli's on both my D2 and D3 (same tyre make/spec)? Just thinking 25k is LOW for a w/b failure but might be close to a tyre change point...Cheers

simonsi - I think tyres are OK. New set of P'Zeros fitted beginning April last year. Done just under 10k, at last services (Sept 08) tyres were 7mm or more left.
Don't drive mad or anything, and she is a road car (no offroading unfortunately, SWMBO orders )
cheers
