Of course while offering either a group buy discount or forum discount I would still want to know we are getting a "fair" price for the D3

Sorry Chiggle Spooge (remember there's no fun in using real words in your forum name ), what I was trying to say is that there are competing pressures when selling bulk orders of vehicles if you also find yourself having to deal with return vehicles.
When a retail sale is completed, there is a balancing act to complete. The customer wants best price to buy and best price on trade-in. There's a finite amount of money in a retail sale, so a bit of juggling takes place until the numbers match the customer's expectations, within the finite limits of the deal. Essentially, money that could be used to give a slightly bigger discount on the new retail car is diverted towards giving the customer a higher trade-in.
When handling bulk sales there is another factor. Fleet/bulk sales qualify for additional bonus money from the manufacturer simply because of the volumes involved. This isn't available on a deal-by-deal basis (retail) and is where the extra discount comes from. Fleet/bulk sales are sold on sticker price - fleets are thick-skinned enough to handle their own disposals through auctions. The cost to change - their purchase price less their (usually lower than trade in) auction price is what matters along with their actual capital outlay.
No dealer is going to be willing or able to pay top banana on 20 used Disco3s of varying vintage and providence after throwing all their retail and a significant part of their fleet bonus at the new cars. It leaves them with a huge headache from a cashflow perspective and a very, very full used car stock list of cars they may not want to stock. As such, you're not going to get top money for your trade-in on top of getting a huge discount to buy the new one. What you will get is a fair trade in (not an inflated one) and a big discount. Your cost to change will be lower than a retail sale with a smaller discount that allows the dealer to push some of the available money back into an inflated trade-in.
Retail example:
Retail car list £40k
Margin £3k
Trade-in underwritten value £20k
Dealer can sell you car for £39k (£1k of margin) and give you £21.5k trade in (£1.5k of margin) and still make £500 towards keeping the showroom open and paying the staff. Your cost to change? £39k-£21.5k = £17.5k plus the keys to your old car.
Fleet deal:
Retail car list £40k
Margin £5.5k
Trade-in underwritten value £18.5k (more cars to shift = oversupply, so needs to get them moving hence lower underwritten values)
Dealer sells you the car for £35k, gives you £18.5k p/ex and your cost to change is £16.5 plus the keys to the new car. You got a p/ex £3k lower and your bottom lip is all of a quiver, but you still save an extra £1k. Meanwhile, the dealer has the task of paying for and shifting 20 used cars that may well double his total used stock. He may bounce half of the cars out to the auctions and may or may not make a profit on them, but what matters is that YOU have an extra £1k in your pocket.

Dealer sells you the car for £35k, gives you £0 as you have no p/ex and your cost is £35k. Removing the p/ex from the equation makes no difference if the dealer isn't going to pay "overs" on it. It just leaves you with a decision on whether to or how to dispose of the old car. The price for the new car is the same either way. Cost to change will depend on how hard a deal you strike when shifting your old one on, but that's in your control to an extent (market conditions allowing, blah blah blah)I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Mine is up for change in October but I could extend or shorten that date, althrough it's a lease car the leasing company I use let me decide on the exact spec and nominate the dealer, then they buy the car direct from that dealer and lease it to me, So we could add one more car to any group buy deal. And it might bring my monthly rate down On a mission to find the perfect Pork Pie. Just Found it (I think)..(Yes I have)

I can't wait until you better off chaps go all 'D4'.....Gives us poorer relations a chance of an upgrade D4 HSE....Probably, but not quite decided yet.

I had my heart set on a manual for my next Land Rover, but the news is that the D4 will not come with that option. How can I decide between the shininess and newness of the D4, and my desire for a manual.
I've been mulling this one over for days, and I think I've come to a decision. It's a D3 HSE with all the toys and a manual gearbox - while I can still get one. I'm taking myself off this group buy. I'll get myself a D4 too when I win the lottery.

My D3 trade in is only 3 months old. So long as the figures are favourable and I don't have to lease or take HP.
