I really hope it sells well - I like the new interior and displays, plus the new engine. However, like some other posters, I feel it's losing a bit of its utilitarian appeal. I don't really like the exterior changes - lights, wheel arches, grille etc.. However, things like that tend to grow on one.
One possible ergonomic disadvantage with the interior - the off-road cluster (ride height/terrain response/ratio controls) currently fall naturally to hand, and can be operated largely without looking. The new ones, it seems, whilst having logical up/down buttons, will require a reach forward, and a visual check of the selection, now that they are positioned ahead of the gear selector. Trivial stuff perhaps, and only based on the pictures .....TDV6 SE Tonga Green

When I sat in the D4 I was confused first of all, as I thought I had gone to the Range Rover first!
(well, as it was a styling based car, the nav screen did say range rover as the software was not yet available!)
You also get two sets of rear wireless headphones by the way
It really is a very nice interior. I am yet to get my head around the terrain control/height control placement as in park, its a little difficult to get to, but at least in that position the numptys won't throw their coffee into the electrics as is what currently happens on the disco 3!
The exterior looks fantasic in the flesh and the grille looks way better than my Disco 3 grille, makes the car look more agresssive funnily enough.
Whilst I understand those of you who want a utilitarian low spec wash it out at the end of the day Discovery, thats not the market segument the Discovery sells into.
The UK is only about 20% of total world wide sales and the markets it sells in want more style, the complaints about the Disco 3 is that the interior is too utilitarian now. This is the feeling across the world including the UK, sorry but thats the facts.
Sorry guys, but LR are more interested in original sales than second or third hand sales down the road and the majority of those want comfort and style with the ability to go off road once in a while. hence the furture 10 speed auto boxes.
The car however will still perform off road as well as the Disco 3, thats for sure.
In the USA the Freelander 2 is not selling as it looks too similar to other small SUV's, the Discovery because it is too utilitarian inside, in fact, what is keeping the company going at the moment is sales of the RR, as the people who buy these like the style and interior and don't want it changed!
I am surprised there has been little comment on the 3.0 Ltr deisel replacing the 2.7 in all but the base line GS

I really like the new D4, in particular the interior which is very smart looking. I am a little disappointed the new engine will only put out 230bhp. This just brings it line with the Grand Cherokee, Tourag and ML and they are knocking around 4 years now. The new Nissan patrol will have over 260bhp when it arrives in 2010!!!
With all these changes to the LR fleet is there any chance the Defender will get an overhaul??? All it needs is the TDV6, automatic box and some elbow room, is this really to much to ask

According to the data sheet the 0-60 time is now down to 9 secs which is not too shabby for such a large and heavy vehicle.
Also there is no mention of a manual in the data sheet

That rules-out my 17" rims that are 400mm but 18" (perhaps 420-425mm ID) would fit if my measurements are anywhere near accurate.
The calipers have different size brackets, the LR3 fit at least 2 sets, std which will fit 17" rim, and a larger size for 19". the LR4 certainly have a third for 20" wheels, and from what you say a set for 18" .
If you really want to put you 17s on, the calipers are the same, all you need is a set of smaller discs and the brackets.
