Tomorrow's challenge - HSE £25,500 |
|
No more than a 57 plate and ideally less than 15k miles.
What do we think folks - inexperienced in maintainance etc so want to go through official dealership.
Got the whole day written off to sit on the phone - whoever does the deal for me will find a burly, unkempt man on their doorstep Monday am to pick it up......... yeah right, by the time I ort the paperwork etc will be more like back end of July - but want the deal done and dusted tomorrow.
Am I hopeless optimistic - or in the right ball park?

just bought a HSE for £25995 (paperwork shows 26995 but they gave me an extra 1k against my freelander2 from the disco)
it's an ex landrover car with 7500 miles on the clock.
should have collected it last Saturday but there has been a cock up with head office sending the V5 form so they can't tax it useless communication with the dealer saying it was being sent down from Gaydon with a chap on a motor bike then that changed to post special delivery, still no show the next day Getting well p ed off now, got on to customer relations and they have found out that it still at Gaydon not yet sent out promised faithfully to get it hear Thursday and i can have my car.
Anyway yes you can find one for that money if you shop around!!

Will post more later - but no joy - was looking 07/57 HSE - nothing doing.
Nearly sealed a deal on 08 XS with a load of toys for 23.5k but it went before I could seal the deal.
Think I am just going to hire something cheap for a month and try again when dealers do not have you over a barrel due to no stock.
Fiat panda it is for me then for April.....

The story of today is that Dealers know they are exceptionally thin on the ground at the minute and are not prepared to budge much - so ended up looking for a newer XS (my original plan) or SE and put three offers in - 2 of which were turned down and the dealer accepted slightly better offers from other people without even coming back to me to see if I would match/better it.
Th other offer was dismissed out of hand as the dealer stuck to a "The price is the price" mantra. Got into a debate with him saying I had to offer more, me saying there is no "had to" about it - I made my offer and that was that.
Probably going to try a different set of dealers tomorrow - there is one other option where a dealer is about to get a car into stock and is going to get details and send it to me in the morning - 1 year old, but mileage is reasonably high (22k ish),
It was so much easier with company car - not nearly half as much fun though!
There is a slightly off the wall option - a brand new XS with £8.5k off (sticker price), and I know that the dealer bonus is £3.5k. The guy went to fetch the finance manager and I just picked up his stock list and checked. So if it is still there end of next week a ridiculous £12k below list price offer may be going in. Absolute beast of a machine, privacy glass, premium audio, roof bars, side steps, bigger alloys etc.

The great deals on 2008.5 stock seem to have dried up. I got a 2008.5 XS with auto, metallic and bluetooth for £29k in January. The best now is £31.4k.

The above new one is £31.9k for an 09 registered XS with loads of tricks on it - and I reckon you can get it to at least 29k.
Having spent yet another night perched on t'internet doing nothing productive it looks like tomorrow's target is an 08 XS <10k miles for 23.5k-24k depending on extras. . Which is about where i started this whole thing. I reckon that given my lack of experience in all things mechanical I am better off investing in one with more of the warranty left, and I can use the cash saved to extend the warranty when the time comes and get a few days off road under my belt? Thoughts?
My local dealer (Stratstone Bury) have an 08XS with 20k miles and no extras to speak of for £26k......... I see what people mean about them!
If I am in the right mood then an 09XS for £29k!!!! Just dont tell the Mrs
