Just chased up LRA as I hadn't heard anything. I was told a technician would be with me by 10pm. I questioned if this would be a LRA chap or one of the local recovery companies. I was told the latter Evil or Very Mad So I've told them not to bother unless a proper technician with the diagnostics looks at it I'm not interested, so I am now expecting a visit a 8am ish Rolling Eyes

As promised LRA came this morning - a great guy who came to my rescue when I ran the battery flat Embarassed He looks in hear as well! Water had not penetrated the connectors and all the usual tricks didn't clear the error and left the car at access on the front, normal at the rear. I was impressed at how high he had to jack the car up to get the front wheel off the ground - the top of the bonnet must have been 5' off the ground. The long and the short was the car has gone to the dealer, I was taken to a hire car company and given a vectra, leather interior and an auto. I now know what being buried alive must be like! I had back ache in the first 10 mins! I hope it doesn't take too long. LRA were great ( I think the guy was called Ian), but I hope I don't get to know him too well Laughing

Just had a call from the dealer, apparently the compressor has gone Crying or Very sad It should be operating at 1700KPa, the best they have had out of it is 600KPa but usually 450KPa Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad The dealer doesn't carry this as a spare and LR has none either Evil or Very Mad At the moment they can't give me a time scale either. The hire car/aka the coffin vectra is to be changed to a LR/Ford company that used to use Freelanders, DS2 but now also use Mondeo and Jags. I have pointed out that I didn't part with £43K to drive a chuffing Mondeo. So the saga continues.

I did comment that this was the first compressor I've heard about (mechanical not electronics!) and it is for them too although they have known it on RR

Pelyma, what ever you do, don't break any light lenses because the dealer will not be able to get them either. Apparently the lenses are simply allocated to the production runs at the moment and they are behind in manufacture.

Not a very good way of going about running a business, you would have thought that they would have everything in place before launching the vehicle, they were obviously not expecting any faults to occur. I blame Ford myself. Shocked

Help Shocked not sure what to do next? After taking advice I have today issued an ultimatum to the dealer to have the car fixed by Wednesday, or be in breach of the Sale of Goods Act 1979! I feel the dealer is doing all they can but my contractual agreement is with the dealer not LR. As the dealership is aware that I bought the car to tow a caravan and drive off road for my field sports then a focus/mondeo/vectra are all unsuitable cars. I'm seriously thinking of taking the vectra down a lane tomorrow and leave it where it gets stuck, having thrown my 5 dogs in the back. I can't think of anyway of towing with the car.

Any ideas of a way forward would be appreciated, my only other idea was to e mail Autoexpress, a mate has just done that about his Tucson and they were very interested. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I would be putting pressure on the dealer also, they should remove the compressor from their demo vehicle. It should not matter if they have to cancel test drives/sales, the existing customer should come first.

BTW I had a compressor failure on my old D2. It was caused by water ingress after wading.

Pelyma, everything you say is correct and I think in the USA they have a 3 hit and return system. I am sure our friends in the USA can enlighten us re that. The problem we have is that the D3 is specialised and hardly any hire companies have 4x4's. This makes it difficult for the dealer when a situation like your ocurrs. Either way they cannot really win, like you in fact. They could rob a compressor off a stock vehicle but then someone else is let down.

Even though they may be main dealers they rarely have a stock of spare D3 or RR's hence the problem.

I would now go for a costing excercise and place the bill at the dealers for the loss of the use of your vehicle, inconvenience and anything else you can think of. The dealer will only pass it on to LR anyway, so put it all down. Re the towing and holidays, if they are booked, send the bill for losses and distress.

"Lemon Laws" here in the US vary by state. In my state, 3 of the SAME problem or some other number of different problems (I think 7 or 12?) within the first year or 12k of ownership...

I used the Lemon Laws in 1997 to return a really lemony-scented Jeep to Chrysler. It was a smooth process... But I did my homework.

Pelyma you have 5 dogs! I have 3... Thinking about a fourth but people think I'm nuts Razz We're actually considering moving to the country and getting into breeding as a full time job for my wife. I love dogs.

Thanks guys, it helps to get it off my chest. I realise that there are likley to be delays with a new car, it is more the unknown time scale. The sevice manager didn't think that they would meet a Wednesday deadline Crying or Very sad I am serious about going for my money back at that point, but another call to Trading Standards will be made before. It isn't the lemon laws as such I am following, more that they have to supply a car of merchandiseable quality or repair the fault in a reasonable time scale. TS felt a week might be that period.

In my job (financial services) there is an unlimited time period that a client can come back at you and I have to compensate them for not only what they loose but what they might also have gained, so it really p****s me off that they can't fix the car or just give me a replacement to do the job.

I really am tempted to tell them I am taking the vectra to the off road day a Borden in Hants which I was going to with my car. There is a £250 excess on the hire car insurance, maybe try and wade 700mm deep - it might be worth £250 to see their faces! Twisted Evil

Pelyma, they should be providing you with a vehicle equivalent to your Disco - therefore if they've handed you a Vectra they are accepting that it will do everything the Disco will..

There was a case recently about a farmer whose Range Rover went in to have warranty work carried out - he was provided with a Corsa which he consequently destroyed putting it to the same work as he put the Range Rover to Twisted Evil

Looks like that's the answer, or at least chuck a load of mud over it to make it look like it has, but it might be difficult to find down here its been so dry. What happened to the Farmer Martin?

He got away with it fully, it was deemed that the dealer/hire company should have provided him with a car that was a suitable replacement, i.e. capable of the same use to which he put the original vehicle.

Well chaps some developments Very Happy The Salesman called me this morning, who I have a great relationship with, to say he was unaware my car hadn't been fixed and that he had been given a copy of my letter and would do all he could. Then about 20 mins later the dealer principal phoned and had a lengthy conversation to apologise and explain what the situation was. He was unable to give a time scale to fix my car and thought my Wednesday deadline was sensible, he assured me that this would not go on and on, he would kill or cure the problem ie the would fix or replace it!

In the meantime he was unable to get a Disco3 for this weekend but promised by Monday or Tuesday at the latest I would be driving a Disco3 again.

My thoughts are he must be pretty certain that they will fix the car before Wednesday or they wouldn't offer to replace it - or am I cynical ?
