Expedition Roof Rack

Is there any way to fit the expedition roof rack inside the LR3 for transport? I'm looking to get one second hand but the seller doesn't have the tools are time necessary to put it on my LR3 on the spot. I'd rather find out now than drive all the way there (not to mention get hopes up) only to have them crushed later. Thanks!

Er, nope.

It only takes 10 mins to fit if you've got the roof rails. Front posts aren't necessary for fixing it to the roof (short term)

Hi Dan .

No would be the answer , when I collected mine from Discowex's house (he was to lazy to fit it for me Whistle Whistle )
I strapped it onto the the roof , used some old towels to stop scraps and drove it home

Are you sure that with only the rear 4 mounting point attached, it would be safe enough to drive, say, for 2.5 hrs. back to my house? Also, I downloaded the instructions. Are the rear four points really that easy to attach? Put a plate inside the rails, clamp it with a second plate above the rail, then put on the rack and bolt it to the plates?

Hi Dan, yes it is that easy just drop the plates in and line them up.
As long as you dont load the rack i would be happy to drive it home just mounted on the rails.

All you need tool wise is a deep ten mill socket and ext bar and i think the allan key for the front mount is a 6mm Question Question

so a decent 3/8 socket set and allan key set will do and a few people to help lift and position it Thumbs Up
Its not the height of the fall but the sudden stop at the bottom that hurts!!

Awesome, the rack will NOT be loaded or anything on my long drive home (so it should be fine with just the rear 4 attached) but I'm headed out now to get the socket set. While I'm at it though, do you know what size drill bit and tap I need for the front mounting point?

Yah, I believe the 06+ had the front holes already pre drilled underneath the plastic cover, but I have an 05. I have not checked it yet myself, but I'm sure i'll need to drill and tap it.

Yes, I looked over them again and I think I skipped over some stuff the first time. It makes sense now, the hole is already there, but you just need to drill a new hole through the plastic trim covering it. The sizes for the bit and tap are also shown, sorry about that! Thanks for all of y'alls help!

You don't need to tap it, just pull the plastic insert out of it, thread is already there. You will (as you noticed for a 05MY) have to drill the holes in the trim, or you could just get a new pair of the newer type with the holes already in from a dealer. You can easily get it home just using the brackets that go in the rails without fitting the front legs till later
