That's interesting Nick, especially as D3 batteries don't seem to last that long and whilst it makes sense to get the dealer to change it during the warranty period I guess a lot of D3 owners will now have to start footing the bill for replacements.
I decided a while ago than if my battery fails when out of warranty, that I'd change it for a Red Top, but I didn't know anyone that had done it.
So with your D3 being from 2005, I take it you swapped the original battery for a Red Top when it was approximately one year old - I've heard of quite a few that have needed replacing within the first year, but why not just get a standard D3 one from LR? What made you decide to use a Red Top and pay for it yourself?

Nick
Did the battery leads reach the red top teminals ..or did you have to modify them ..as the battery is a lot shorter and the terminals are more in the middle than the outside ...like this

Having looked at the OEM terminals in detail recently, I am assuming you have to change the terminals for something more sutible.

Not too sure about the idea of just changing the battery cables/terminals....I was looking at mine last weekend whilst wiring up a permanent fused 12V for the CarPC and noticed some funny things.
I seem to remember that the negative is a big multi-terminal cable and I think it's used to earth the battery to the chassis and also to the engine.
Also the positive cable passes through a chunky little box on the side of the battery (at least on mine) which I think is some sort of safety feature to disconnect power in case of a serious accident (or something like this).
As you can tell I don't have much of an idea - maybe we can fill in the blanks as I think there is much more to them than just being simple terminals and cables/earth straps.
Either way Non Stick has it working so maybe he can shed some light on it 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE AutoBuckingham Blue 2007 Golf GT DSG
