Carl I have only fitted them not driven with them on! They do clear as you can see from the photo, but only just!
For me I do not think if I will ever need them But I have them now so can show that I have them if stopped by French police (going out to the Alps skying next month)
I would be interested to see LR's chains fitted if any one has any?
End of the day if I get stuck I will be glad to have them!

Hi Nick,
Thanks for th clear photo. I know that they clear but it looks very close. Did you find anyone who has got the LR chains for a comparison photo?
Regards,
Duncan

What, they will let you out of the shop to have some fun time Nick?
Yes, we were down at Montalbert for New Year, stunning snow! New years day was best skiing conditions for about 5 years I reckon. Hardly anyone out ( all coping with hangovers I suspect), crisp prepared pistes and the kids happy to cruise long distances and at a reasonable pace. I am looking forward to an adults only (what will the girls do without us) long weekend next week then roll on Half term and Easter.
Safe skiing when you go.
Duncan
Are you flying or driving?

Friends that are going out at the same time will be leaving Beaconsfield at 3am to fly & we do not want them to beat us!

Hello,
My dealer did not have original Land Rover chains (they were not available even in Rome), so he proposed me to buy Koenig chains. I have chosen another brand of heavy duty 12mm chains, and the look very close (see photo). I too would appreciate pictures of original Land Rover chains for comparison,
Thanks, Vito

I was talking about snow chains with my dealer here in Germany today. He could supply standard LR chains for about €475 (around £325) or Pewag chains for €250 (around £170). He said that another D3 owner had already used the latter successfully.
Now I have e-mailed Pewag for more information. If anything interesting comes of that, I will report. On the Pewag web site, it says that 4x4 vehicles must have chains on all wheels. Does LR recommend that too?
Next month I am going to Finland for the LRE Snow and Ice course. Their web site says that the course includes "How to fit chains on all ..." - then there is some word missing! But maybe they mean "all wheels". However, if we do that and the chains are genuine LR (or maybe if they're not), I'll try to take some photos.

LR's official statement is "snow chains can only be fitted on the the front wheels" and "use Land Rover approved chains only." The later statement probably being lawyer protection from people that fit incorrect chains and trash their vehicle..
Repeated for your protection:
SNOW CHAINS
Snow chains are designed for use on hard-surface roads in extreme snow conditions only, and are not recommended for off-road use. If it is necessary to fit snow chains to your vehicle, ALWAYS observe the following:
• Front wheels: Snow chains can only be fitted to the front wheels of vehicles equipped with 17, 18, or 19 inch wheels.
• Rear wheels: Snow chains MUST NOT fitted to rear wheels of the vehicle.
• Snow chains MUST NOT be fitted to a compact/temporary spare wheel.
• ONLY Land Rover approved snow chains should be used. These are designed for your vehicle and will eliminate any risk of damage to other components. Approved snow chains are only available from a Land Rover Dealer.
• Always adhere to the snow chain fitting and retensioning instructions, and the speed limitations recommended for varying road conditions. NEVER exceed 50 km/h (30 mph).
• ONLY fit snow chains in pairs.
• Avoid tire damage by removing the chains as soon as the road is free from snow.
• In some driving conditions, it may be beneficial to deactivate Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) in order to maximise traction.
For further information about approved snow chains, consult your Land Rover Dealer.
[!] WARNING: DO NOT fit unapproved snow chains - this could damage tires, wheels, suspension and brake components and could result in damage to the bodywork of the vehicle.

Chains Fitted
I have also found a set of chains that will fit - supplied by www.snowchains.com (Kent, UK). This was after extensive dicussions with local LR dealing, Rud (who I believe make the LRD3 chains) and Snowchains.com. Bought the ARTIK ART255.
