so what actually breaks ?
-plastic clip inside actuator
-wire cable somewhere in between actuator and release latch in lower tailgate or
cable at release latch

Just spent the whole afternoon reading the threads for "Jammed Tailgate Latch". As per usual you guys do a great job in making things not so bleak for us fans of the LR (even though they constantly throw us crap excuses and less than 'ergonomic' designs that frustrate us to hell!Anyway off the soap box..bit the bullet followed the directions and after a bit of effort (especially that trim) success. As also mentioned in other threads it was the suspect "L"shaped end of the actuator that had broken and not the actual switch. Leading to the question, is the cable a replaceable part if so anyone know the number? or is there a way of attaching something to connect to the actuator, I have read a couple of threads on the U.S mentioning zip ties and some little block but no pics.
Could someone help with a pic of an "original" set up to see how it all lines up as it seems that it is a common fault and they (LR) have since changed the cable since then but still no part number.
This has been, and is the best site for all LR owners and should be included in any extended warranty package!!!javascript:emoticon('')

Trouble following the instructions |
|
Hi
As always this forum is a great resource for info and inspiration, and possibly some help.
I'm stuck with the same problem described in this thread, and I'm at the point where I've gotten the trim off, but have gotten no further. Can someone please explain where I'm supposed to search for the cable?
To describe where I'm at: The trim has some "wool" insulation and the metal on the bottom part of the tailgate has some rubber/foam glued on to it. I've pulled the trim back to the point where I can actually see the floor.
Is the cable behind the glued foam, or behind the "wool" on the trim.
So to be specific I'm stuck between point 3 and 4 in this manual

Thanks

Just had my tail gate fail - shut the upper section, drove for 3 miles will not open either key fob or interia button... Will try the 15 second two button hold and keep my fingers crossed.
Otherwise its out with the butter knives in the morning to see whats wrong...! Did the poll ever get set up.
Mines a 2007 XS. . Why do I have 2 big hands when my D3 maintenance requires small hands and at least three of them ?

15 seconds with he two interior door locking opening buttons depressed and the lock moved after 7 or 8 seconds, but whilst the door is now semi released it still wont open - nothing on the button under the upper tailgate handle - so whats next ' replace the exteria handle assembly ??? WTF ??
Wont it be a soleniod or some such gadget ?? Inside the assembly and how do you get at it ? Dark now and raining so will await the morning....

I have the same probelm as lurk - I can't open the top part of the tailgate with the key or by pressing the dash buttons for >2 seconds. When pressing the dash buttons for >2 seconds the latch opens - the top part of teh tailgate is 'semi-open' but still can't open it as I presume the cable latches are still in place.
I can't follow the guide/s above as I can't actually get to the trim on the lower section of the tailgate because it's still blocked by the upper tailgate. BTW my dealer quoted me £125 to fix this when the car was in getting the EPB fixed. '05 (55) TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

new handle/actuator fitted by myself, takes less than 20 mins (simple plug in and play) then stealer did the release cable. IMO yer need to do both not just the cable to be on the safe side as the catch worked fine for a few weeks after the cable was replaced, then the solanoid gave up on the handle

As is typical - the rear latch upper handle thing has been fine all day ! Dry & Sunny so I suspect the rain has a big part in the problem.
Character - how did you release the door handle assembly - I removed the 4 screws in the lower section but couldn't get it to move more than a couple of mm's. Are there any fixings hidden behind trim ?
I've been quoted less than £60 for the assembly delivered from the forums Tame 'Parts Dealer at Yeovil !'
But unless I can get the old one off without busting the trim I'm steering clear at present....
Any advice much appreciated - did you keep the old assembly to photograph by any chance ?

yep there are two screws that you access from taking off the rear plastic panel (ie unscrew the crab handle screw on the panel and then pull it off as its stuck on with the plastic push fittings). once off and you've unscrewed the two remaining screws, then simply pull out the electric connector and feed the wire thru, hey presto!
Just plug the new one in and screw him down, job done!
chucked the old one away, the new one comes as a complete assembly with LR badge insitu and push in connector to marry up with the existing female (or should that be male connector)
