It's (almost) summer again and my windscreen is covered in the aftermath of the wholesale death of what looks like thousands of insects. Does anyone out there have any good tips for cleaning it off other than by hot water and hard work?

Soak a tea towel in hot water, lay it over for 15 mins, wipe off. Welcome "Lola"

Get one of the special Insect/Fly Removal sponges commonly available on the continent. They are courser and shouldn't be used on paintwork or plastic lights but do not scratch glass - fantistic - makes life alot easier.
I used to have to bring them back from Germany, but last year got one over here (Halfords I think) which had half normal sponge and have course insect removal sponge. LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.
