yes to using a wheel ... NO to using the spare. If it's a wheel that is going back on, you won't accidentally lower the car and crush the edge of the rim.

They should be forged rather than a simple casting. Casting has almost no elasticity, fine for pure compression load but no good for a bending force.A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

Definately should be made from Drop Forged steel but that would be a lot more expensive.
