Door mirror Question 2016MY

Hi All,

My 16 plate HSE has powerfold mirrors but other than that are a bit basic other than the inbuilt indicators. (no puddle lights, no blindspot, no cameras)

I'd really like them to be heated glass for a start. Does anyone know if the wiring is there to take heated glass already and it's just a case of swapping in new heated mirror glass?

Would it also need the CCF updating to tell the car it has them so they get switched on?

Thanks

Not sure if the wiring is included on yours but I have a 2016MY HSE (Jun 2015 registration) that has heated mirrors and puddle lights as standard. I paid extra for blind spot monitoring which is included in the mirror.

If it stops raining I’ll pop a glass out and see if the heater wire is present. If it’s not then it’s probably a non starter.

UPDATE:

Removed the glass and they are heated mirrors, the wires are attached to the glass (slightly corroded) but so far their performance has been rubbish.

On all my other cars, the heating helps clear water as well as ice, but these don't seem to do anything.

Does anyone know what parameters are needed for the heating part to kick in? Is it temperature related or down to the controls on the HVAC selected?

Thanks

Mine take about 10-15 minutes to evaporate even a slight misting. Doesn't make any difference with the rear heated screen on (Which works very well).

Mine work automatically based on temperature. I believe the operation of the heated mirrors is linked to the temperature the outside temperature sensor. This also controls the auto switch on of heated screens.
I don’t know at what temp the heating of screens/mirrors is set to come on , but there have been many reports of this sensor not accurately registering the outside temp. If I remember correctly the sensor reads about 3-4 degrees above the correct temperature causing the auto switching on of heated windscreen and mirrors to not operate at designed temp.
This may be your problem. (ie they may not be turning on when they should). You can search for outside temperature sensor issues on the forum which will throw up some experiences. You can check whether your sensor is accurate by checking the outside temp the car is registering against the actual temperature (I checked mine against another vehicles temp reading to prove mine was accurate). I haven’t seen the auto operation of heating elements on my car yet this year, but I live in sub tropical Kent.
Hope this helps. I’ll try to search on info on this subject and post a link.
Good luck
 Gary

Lots of info about ambient temperature reading issues in this thread which may be your problem and worth checking. Somehwere in here there’s info on the temp that switches on heated mirrors ( as well as heated windscreen automatically and fuel burning heater - so quite important to get this all working properly. There is a dealer TSB mentioned for a fix , if it does turn out to be this . Sorry, not got time to read through it all again. Do a check on outside temperature reading first to confirm if you have this problem.
