I put the jack in wrong place near side rear on what i now know is a plastic cover rather than the chassis. It is at the same point as where th jack should be located just 2 inches to the outer sdied of the car.
When i start her up get a bit of buzzing compressory typ noise for two minutes or so then it stops nothing else noticeable.
It is a 05 S model.
So any ideas as due to my incomptence what i have damaged?
Is it going to hurt the wallet?
Cheers Guys

Broken the bracket the compressor sits on, and probably the protective casing too. At a dealer, your probably looking at about £130 to replace them, if the compressor is OK.
Personally, i havnt seen a compressor terminally damaged by jacking the car on it...

Johnny if you can take off the lower compressor housing cover ....
Quote:
The compressor casing is black and around 20 inches long and around 8 inches at it's widest. The casing has upper and lower sections and for the purpose of this exercise I only needed to remove the lower. This is held in place by three 10mm bolts with washers, two are attached to the chassis rail at each end and one up through the centre of the casing. There are also four plastic wedge type fasteners moulded into the casing to further secure the two parts together.
...this is what you should see inside
If nothing looks damaged it could just be that the cracked \ deformed casing is resting against the compressor ...this will magnify the ususal compressor hum 10 fold.

yep, sure did got a new cover from Nick and it wasn't too expensive.
I didn't damage any of the compressor parts so with a bit of luck it might also just be the cover.

Yep, been there done that. First time I had to change a tyre, lots of mud under the car and managed to "almost" jack it up using the compressor cover drainage hole as the jacking point . Cost me $500 for a new alloy bracket that holds the compressor in place.

I've done it. Cold rainy night on the motorway. People will continue to do this as long as LR keep manufacturing the compressor cover with a hole and profile that exactly matches the male section of the b*****y scissor jack. You've probably snapped the aluminium bracket that holds the compressor on and it's vibrating on the body shell or close to it.
