Everybody like a picture, so

1. Dalhousie Homestead, not fra from the famous springs at the west side of the Simpson.

2. On the road to Painted Desert, Driving in from Marla - Check out the special G4 Ladder mod.

3. Self explanatory at Oodnadatta

Hi Norto,

The problem is I can write a small book after being there for 3 years, There is just too much to see and do.

My avatar is at a small campsite called 2 Mile creek just past Glen Helen. Another great spot.

I can only agree having spent 6 years in 'Alice' but when it was a town of only 12,000 and there were no traffic lights, roundabouts or two story buildings. It is some of the most beautiful country in Australia and with the most livable climate and is a must see destination. I do miss it Big Cry but not the flies Shocked

was going to go to Dalhousie springs but the guy at the MT Dare Pub suggested going to the Eringa waterhole instead as the water was cooler, less bities and less people. we were the only ones there and while baron either side it was quite nice

Hi everyone!

thank you all for the passionate replies!

The safety certainly has raise a bit concern. The reason is my girlfriend (hopefully soon to be fiancée) and I may draw a bit attention with our foreign looks, young age and a luxurious car when park on streets. Jealousy is a dangerous thing...

Though we still want to make the trip as nearly 99%+ of the tourists made out safe and enjoyed the place! Any tips on how to make things more safe?

Hi Andy,

I think we may have made you more nervous than you should be.

This is some of the most beatiful and amazing country to visit. If you travel by day and rest by night all will be fine. Target shorter days if you want to be sure about where you are staying and when you will arrive, or start early finish early, that gives time for end of day sightseeing. The major locations are fine as long as you use common sense, I've been more nervous in San Francisco than ever in Alice Springs or other remote areas.

It's all too good to miss any and you never get to see it all!

Ianv Thumbs Up Let the dust settle on the car until you get back home,

I was more nervous when in Melbourne TBH (by a long way) although Finke was 'interseting'

What Question Question A long time ago I went to the Dargo Walnut Festival in April and it was one of the most scary experiences I had. One of my own supposed "friends" gets drunk and turns on us along with all of the other drunks that hit the town for the drinking session. He needed to be hog tied and thrown in the boot unfortunately I wasn't driving the car he was in but I would have had him flying around in the boot on the dirt road back to our campsite along the Briagalong River (60-70km away?) to teach him a bit of a lesson.

I was born in Alice in 1963 and lived there until 1970. have been back a few times for varying periods (last 1999).
WoW, from seeing Sputnik go over, television (at one of the Americans (who manned Pine Gap) house) and the first Drive-In cinema (on the American base) compared to 1999 it is a real culture shock!!

OH and I met my future wife there in 1999 at the 'lovely' nurses quarters at the hospital!!

Andy V6SE,
Get your fuel (certainly Diesel) at the refinery about 40Km South of Alice just off the main highway. It is/wa3 about 20c/litre cheaper than the town servos!!!
I used to drive the 40 km each way just to fill up (but I had a 80 seriews back then and 145 litres made it worth while!!)
 regards
Peter

I was there from beginning of 1976 to beginning of 1984 with two years in Adelaide in the middle. I remember the drive-in and that the ABC was the only TV station in town and used to play Saturday night movie from tapes sent from down south. Occasionally they would post a message half way through the movie to say that the 2nd tape to finish the movie was the wrong one. My two boys were born in Alice, maybe the drive-in was to blame Rolling with laughter That's where I had my first Land Rovers as well Very Happy
