AUTO BOX FILTER - HOW LONG BETWEEN CHANGE? |
|
I have checked many searches and have not found what I have been looking for. Can anybody advise if filter has to be changed when doing a "mega-flush"? Having done 77000 Klms since ZF fitted their steel pan/filter on doing the first flush after intilial 110000 Klms I am in the position of trying to get the Pan off. The job of removing all the pan bolts was bad but I am now faced with the seeming impossible job of removing the pan, on which ZF used sealent/glue to attach it with. Try as I might, I have no way of breaking this seal.
My question is this - What would be the harm of using the filter for another 50000 or so? LR, with their "Lifetime" oil use nonesense seem to think the filter was good for it.
Any advice would be happily received. At this time I have no other way to go. I will be pumping through 15 L or more ZF Lifeguard 6, so will probably clean out most of the system. Life always good with a Landy

IMHO don’t unless you do regular heavy towing, it is a gearbox not an engine, the only contamination can come from wearing parts like the clutches which I doubt the filter would filter out anyway, they will be carried out with the oil. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking on the same line. It is annoying that ZF should do this as I have just purchased the Filter and Gasket from them for this, R1600 down the drain, my Stock system keeps growing!
How is Nottingham? Have many friends in the area. I left Leicester over 50 years ago.
Thanks again, I'll complete the job with a calmer mind now.
Safe driving. Life always good with a Landy

I agree, its more of a screen than a filter but if it hasn't been changed in 110k i would be changing it regardless.

I'd be more worried about the magnets getting so covered that they stop picking stuff up. Then you have jeweller's paste in your box not oil.
