Gents you guys seem to be in the know in regards to the V6 lr3 ....
I am going to be buying a new vehicle later on this year and i have settled on 2 different vehicles made by Landrover .....
V6HSE LR3 OR LR2HSE i6 .
Now i know the paper differences with these 2 vehicles , what i dont know is , is the LR3 hampered by it's wieght and reletively low power ? I have riven the LR2 and i have to admit it was damn good on and off raod , while i doubt the LR2 can better the LR3 offroad will the v6 engine be a hindrance on road ?
As you are the experts please let me know ,many thanks

Well, I own a 2005 V6 SE Disco. I haven't driven the Freelander 2 (LR2) or neither have any experience with the first generation.
As you are aware, Freelander 2 is a smaller 4x4 with better power to weight ratio, no doubt it should be better handling and significantly faster given the sizes of the engines that you are referring to. Although the D3's V6 petrol engine is less technologically sophisticated and the output is lower compare to its rivals, but it's certainly up to the job to get you in and out of the Aussie tracks though it may not do in the same comfortable style as the torquey TDV6 or the V8.
The concern for me is the Freelander 2 HSE is a lot more expensive than a Disco V6 SE petrol, and please note there is no HSE spec for the Disco V6 petrol.
Price apart, it comes down to what you are looking for and what is required with your life style. If you have lots friends, big family, dogs, children and don't go to the CBDs very often (busy offroading of course!) or even want people to notice you and think you are doing really well, Disco is certainly the No.1 4x4 there is. If you want to enjoy the power and speed, plus the practicality of a mid-size wagon and very good offroad capability, Freelander 2 is also a good buy.
My suggestion with a budget of a Freelander 2 --- I'll definitely give a shot of the Disco V8! Same price, lots fun and 2 more comfy seats!

The V6 SE is fine in city traffic and having just completed our first long highway journey in the D3 it has adequate performance (although accelerating to join traffic is not its strong point). In terms of which to choose the deal available on the V6 SE was compelling so I didn’t look at the V8 HSE but when it comes time to upgrade I’ll be heading for the V8!

Are you using premium unleaded???
The V6 acceleration is just as good as the V8 (depending on how much gear you have loaded up). i travelled up north last year with my wife, kids and 90% of what we own and did not have any issues with not enough power.. The V6 is plenty for the vehicle, and being such a old design means that it's tried and tested, so no probs (touch wood) What's the point.... it all comes out in the wash anyway!

Bob, the acceleration and speed you drive has nothing to do with the engine......
it's all in the mind.
Just about any vehicle can scare the h ll out of anyone, just be pressing the throttle
hard enough.
When I was a kid,a Ford Capri 1600 went like the wind......but the figures don't look much anymore...
but at the time it was a heart racer. 8)
The 4 litre six will not leave you wanting in a SUV.
( you'll get it for buttons too ! )

Depends what you want from a car. The Fl2 IMO drives much better on road it is much nippier than the D3 in comparing diesel to diesel. The V6 petrol Fl2 was a fair bit nippier than the diesel with a great engine note. What a Fl2 doesn't do is give that magic carpet ride. We have both and although I like the Fl2 I never drive it out of choice; but it is a good car. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

CW,
It's a Western World vehicle genre what most people can visualise.
Many vehicles are not actually 4 wheel drive, except in shape, so the
term is quite misleading.......4x4 is a bit dorky these days too.

I've got the V6SE and love it. The price was a steal at 64k drive away and anyone with a calculator can work out that the additional 12-16k for the diesel is just not justifiable, unless range is the issue.
I've done 24,000km now, lots off road but most in heavy city traffic. Averaging 16l/100k in town down to 11.4l/100km on the hwy.
re the FL2 economy, see this post

Cheers.

Yes! Bear in mind my daily driver is a 785kg Lotus
I often drive diesel Landcruisers at work (poverty pack 100 series) and the D3 V6 is quicker!

''and please note there is no HSE spec for the Disco V6 petrol. ''
I am in Oman , there is a V6 HSE here (different countries different specs i suppose ...), the reason i posted this topic in Australia /New Zealand region is that the only owners i have found with the v6petrol were from Aus ..
I still havent made my mind up about which vehicle to choose but being under powered is no longer an issue mind you having 2 different Landrovers as main choice is not a bad place to be
Thanks

Hehe~ Sorry Expat~ I thought you are in Australia. Unfortunately we don't get the HSE spec.
V6 is able to get 0-100km under 10sec. power shouldn't be a great problem.
