Lr3 cruise control issue
Hello all, and Merry Christmas to some, happy holidays to others.
I’ve had my Lr3 for about a year, and because of economic reasons I only recently (yesterday) got the gap tool. In attempt to figure out the cruise control issue.
As a supportive viewer or LR times (thanks Vera for guidance to here) “oh my god” 🤣
Unfortunately she hasn’t broken hers yet, or maybe better said Christian hasn’t.
Anyway after using the tool to scan the many codes stored over the years.
The most prevalent seems to be “Speed sensor A”
However calling the parts stores, and even the local LR dealer (4 hours away) no one can yet tell me where this is located, so I can order a new part.
My suspicion is it’s the one going to the transmission, how ever because of economics I can’t just throw money at this.
(Living on disability is a real bummer!)
So, with that I praying for some guidance as a trip to south Texas from north west Colorado, is going to really suck without cruise control, on this coming Friday 12/16
And back a week ish later.
Please,,,, anyone….
Buhler,,,,,,, Buhler…… 😆
Thanks for looking at the post.

I would do a live values test.
And press the cruise steering wheel buttons and see if they all register working.

HI dude, could you post the related code to your "speed sensor A" reading it from the iidTool?
Usually the cruise control is affected from a "brake pedal switch" mulfunction or a burnt out stop light bulb. - Easy-Lift suspension module 4.0

My C/C stopped working a couple of years ago, I took the airbag out of the way, and ‘exercised’ the connectors on the delicate wiring for the c/c, and checked for any loose / broken wires. It has worked faultlessly since. So with mine, it was solely down to connections becoming a little ‘tarnished’ over time. Worth a try, costs nothing but a small amount of your time.D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

Do what he says. Remove the buttons, clean the terminals gently and try again. This simple task has fixed many non-functional buttons. (There are several posts showing the process - v easy).PAGODA

So I did clear the codes with the scan tool. And cruise did work…. For about 5 seconds. Then code of course came back.
(See picture below)
And thanks very much to everyone who took the time to respond, really appreciated.

From your DTC code it seems to be related to a wheel speed sensor...

Try to read on the tool in "live data" the 4 wheel speed, probably one will be missing while driving- Easy-Lift suspension module 4.0

So I did just do a drive with the live data, and all four wheel sensors were showing identical. Then I found the transmission output rpm so I could watch it and also all four tires at same time. Rpm seems fine and all four wheels were again showing the same speed.
I did find an intermittent brake bulb on top passenger. Changed with new. That didn’t fix it either. 😢

Thanks again to all that have responded.
I understand there are several posting to clean the steering wheel switches. Which is great fine and dandy.
However this doesn’t help as I can figure since they are functioning normally as it appears.
And as I’ve said before, after clearing the speed sensor code. Cruise control will activate for between 5-20 seconds. Then the speed sensor code returns.
It wouldn’t activate at all if the switches on steering wheel were bad.
Although it’s certainly not a bad idea to clean just because of age.

Could be clock spring if it disengages when the wheel is turned slightly.
Or the contacts are poor and it’s a bit random

Thanks for the idea, I’ll have to wait to tear into the steering wheel at this point. Just running out of time.
My mechanic and I messed with this for around fou hours today.
The speed sensor is no longer coming on.
Still the same though, cruise will work for about 20 seconds then turn itself off.
Three other codes have appeared two are parking sensors one front one back.
While testing the front one, ending in now two sensors breaking from their age.
Didn’t mess with the rear one, as we can’t get parts locally anyway
The other alert is for a seat positioning.
Driving in the road nearby that has some aggressive turning we couldn’t make the cruise control cut out in the turns.
But again it will quit after 20 seconds today. Regularly.
Other tests include braking switches, accelerating switches. Everything else is showing as it should in the gap tool.
Other thing we thought of today was I do have much larger than factory tires. And there is a aftermarket height position box that was installed prior to purchase, that i intend to remove soon.
Thanks again for everyone’s support and suggestions. Going through them as we can.

It does sound like you have a horrible fault.
The ecu tripping it out.
I would recommend you search this site using the full fault code give by the gap iid
Look at results on petrol cars from ppl in America and see if any solutions given

I’ve done the above. Not that helpful
My guess would be the speed signal (over can bus) between abs and engine ecu isn’t good.
But worth checking the basics and easy stuff
Also use the graph function on the 4 wheel speeds to see if any spikes while driving
