There i was hurtling down the A3 on Tuesday night just south of Hindhead when the traffic ahead started to pull up sharply..... i applied the brakes and started to slow down, then looked for a little more only to find the brake pedal had gone rock hard with no progression on the brakes...... how i stopped i do not know but to the guy in the 08 mini estate i'm sorry.... seeing 2.5 tonnes of disco bearing down on you at 60 with the driver pulling the steering wheel towards him must have been a sight.....
Anyway, LRA pick up the disco at 22:00 and recover to nearest dealer, ( who have been very supportive) Today i find out that it needs a new Servo thingammyjig and guess what,,,,,, on BACKORDER..... they have requested a part form the line in the factory and have been quoted ten working days! Doh.......
LRA (enterprise) have given me a nice 2.7 twin turbo Jaguar sport thing to play with......stating that the nearest LR to the portsmouth office was Derby!!!
Still the Jags a bit bling, lots of mesh grills huge wheels and the biggest rear pipes this side of BarryG......
Time to sit back and let the story unfold... last time a part was on "backorder" they had the disco for six weeks in the meantime i'd piled 6k onto a brand new Volvo XC70......( delivery miles when i picked it up) Enterprise where a little "surprised when i took it back i'm lovin it....

shall i PM you my reg and dealer name.... perhaps the "system" will tell you that they have kept the response "simple" for the client and its a larger job......with more "bits"i'm lovin it....

TBH the emergency brake is no use in these situations... takes too long to activate. You'll likely end up hitting what you wanted to not hit in the 1st place.

Mine only takes the time for me to reach the switch and pull it up, it is almost instant when I have "tested" it.
It starts to work before it starts bleeping.
Is that normal

I think what Simon is saying is that your natural reaction after your brain says 'stop' is to hit the footbrake ...if that doesn't respond your brain has to think ...ok let's try the emergency brake and by time your got your hand into the position it could be game over. Does it apply all the brakes or just the rear, mine feels like it is only the rears, but I would have thought it would be all 4 wheels.

I would test it out, but my car is still at the dealers with the steering knock. Had the new anti roll bar bushes, they were fitting ball joints, but they said that it was taking longer than expected to find the fault.
Hopefully I will get it tomorrow.

Exactly my point.
You'll notice that when you pull the EPB switch the D3 first goes beep beep beep beep BEFORE it applies the brakes
Not good in a real "oh my god I am going to hit something" situation.
I think the real reason the feature exists is if you are in the situation that the brake pedal fails. Using the EPB switch will apply the brakes via an electronic trigger not the hydraulic system the foot brake uses.

The reason it's there is for the 'fat american driver having a coronary' scenario.... that and in case you scare the schite out of the LRE instructor on road sections
Does it apply just the pads to discs, or also the EPB shoes in the drums as well? Is it OK to try the system out on a quiet stretch of road, or does that things up a bit?Previously:
