Oh dear, I'm having a really "blonde" moment.... Where is the emergency brake switch? If you never try, you'll never know...

EPB (handbrake) switch. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Slipware - if you are going along and suddenly feel a heart attack coming on , you can bring the D3 to a controlled stop by lifting up the EPB lever and holding it there, which will apply the brakes and bring the car to an emergency stop. Try it, it's good fun..... but not on a busy road..... The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us yet.

Just the brakes. I doubt it uses the EPB brake too.

The EPB shoes don't engage until you've dropped below something like 2kmh - everything down to that point is just the disks and pads. I've always assumed that this is a good method to vibrate the crud off the pad slides, but I have no firm evidence that this is the case.
It's a great way of stopping the kids arguing in the back too Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

But if the vehicle detects that theres a problem with the hydraulics (not slowing down) then the EPB shoes will be applied.

norto - No, it applies the brakes as if you had stood on the brake pedal - ie with abs workign when nescessary
lafona00 - It is the same lever as the Handbrake (Park Brake) as opposed to pulling it and letting go when stationary to apply the handbrake, pull and hold up whilst drivign along to activate the "Emergency Stop" facility
Hope this is clear

PS I have tried this on other cars with elctric handbrakes. A new A6 perfoms an emergency stop just like the Disco, but an early S-type jag locks the rear wheels

Why doesn't it mention this in the user manual? Are there any other interesting "hidden" features the experts would like to share with we mere mortals?
