Cheers and I have spent a while inspecting. Belt and tensioners were done not long ago. I didn’t torque the alternator but it’s defo solid. Zip tied all the rubber pipes to the left that were touching the alternator. So they are not touching anything now. Wd40 the chassis from inside but will spray waxoil when it’s dry and re do
All looks and sounds nice and certain it sounded smoother cranking. So I’ll check the voltage in the morning and expect to see it over 12.6v for the first time in god knows how long.
Also Pete: the new (to me) fan works and does not sound louder when revving as I said before. I think the other one was broken or modified to increase with revs (think I seen a thread on bypassing then)
I’ll keep this old one for heatwaves if this one packs in etc. Wondering how or why it would get so noisy with revs thiugh? Disco 3 SE Manual 2005 V6 2.7

Better check for engine fault codes to ensure fan is perfect or clear them if present
