Who needs a Christmas tree when you have a disco3 dashboard |
|
Hi all, new to the forum. Ive read countless threads but cant seem to get to the bottom of this issue im having.
So i started to get christmas lights on the dash, dsc, epb, hdc and suspension faults, then the car goes into limp mode. I have a icarsoft iid tool and i get a lot of codes but most are communication faults but i also got some suspension faults.
When leaving the car for a few days the suspension doesnt drop so i dont think there are any leaks at the struts, but when i checked for air leaks i noticed bubbles coming out from the blue and red hoses at the conpressor, so i changed the compressor and this resolved that issue but still the car goes into limp mode. I’ve checked lines for any other leaks, none detected. I found one of the air lines was a little blocked so I replaced this and also rebuilt all the valve blocks. The suspension is working as it should but I’m still getting the issues, I originally thought it was a suspension issue but now I think it’s something else but don’t know where to start looking.
I’m really at a loss at what to look for next, the codes I’m picking up now are
diesel v6
P0402- exhaust gas recirculating flow excessive detected
The egr’s have been capped off so doubt it’s this
auto gearbox
U2023- fault received from external node
abs
U0401- invalid data received from engine control module/power train control module
Instrument pack
U0132- lost communication with ride level control module
hvac
B1b74- front foot defrost mode stepper actuator
B1b75- front foot face mode stepper actuator
B1b76- front left air blend stepper actuator
B1b77- front right air blend stepper actuator
B1b78- system pressure
There’s codes are always present so doubt it’s anything to do with these
parking brake controls module
U0100- lost communication with engine control module/ power train control module
all terrain control module
U0402- invalid data received from transmission control module
u0416- invalid data received from vehicle dynamics control module
Ride level control module
U0416- invalid data received from vehicle dynamics control module
Body control module
B1d06- left turn signal circuit
B1d14- interior lamps 2 circuit
Any help would be greatly appreciated

The HVAC ones appear, at least on my D3, in the middle of the winter and signify battery low voltage… how is your battery?

I checked it a little while ago and all seemed normal, I will leave the car for a few days and then check again and see if there been any voltage drop

You could clear all codes, too. And then worry only about the ones that come back.

I have cleared all codes and these are the ones that come up after I get Christmas lights on dash and car goes into limp mode

Is there anything special that you do when it happens?
Like
- immediately at ignition time?
- When you just drive around on a nice Sunday drive?
- When you press…. the brake pedal?

No nothing in particular that I’ve noticed, it seems to happen randomly while driving

P0402 could have a bearing if you have an induction leak as this will cause an invalid torque calculation to be broadcast, regardless of whether the EGR's are blanked or not. Also Investigate U0100 & U0132, they will be key to the cascade errors, lost comms shouldn't occur with invalid signals.

I will look into the egr code further but as for the other 2 you mentioned I don’t how to look into those further as it’s not giving me anything specific as a starting point

Firstly, focus on the EGR DTC, as well as induction leaks, this can occur if the EGR position is being incorrectly reported - i.e. a defective EGR valve. Check the actual values, commanded vs. actual for both valves, if one seems to 'wander' then disconnect it, it will / may cause the EML to illuminate (dependent upon MY) but won't cause any other errors or cascade errors. There are a lot of 'invalid data' DTC's set, without knowing which data is invalid, you need to check DTC's for physical issues - such as the three I've highlighted.
One of the DTC's is very specific "parking brake controls module U0100- lost communication with engine control module" in conjunction with the appropriate wiring diagram, you have a starting point.
And another one with "Instrument pack U0132- lost communication with ride level control module"
Both are lost communication DTC's, not invalid data so will have a bearing on your issue, despite the commonly held belief that you can ignore 'U codes'.

OP said the EGRs were blanked

Yep, I saw that - the 'flow' is 'detected' by the reported EGR valve position, sometimes this DTC can be caused by a charge or fresh air leak as well. It's not an actual flow measurement, just a calculation.

What year is your car. Fill in profile!!!
Looks like you need an indicator bulb also

So as I’ve mentioned the egr’s have been blanked but not in the normal way most people would do it, so I know after blanking them you would need a ecu remap to delete the necessary files and I didn’t want this done so what I did is I left the existing egr valves in place which were faulty and I blanked them off and then I placed some new egr valves into the engine bay (not installed) but then I connected the connector to the new egr valves which are not actually installed, my thinking was to trick the ecu into thinking the new egr valves were installed where in fact the old egr’s are still in place but blanked off, I hope this made sense. This has been like this for some which never caused me any issues, do you think it might be he cause?
With regards to the other U codes do you suggest I look for any breaks in the wiring/corrosion for those modules?

It’s a 2008 tdv6
Yes when I looked at the indicator bulb they were all working which makes me think there may be poor connection and the fault is intermittent
